Renault has officially named its upcoming 7-seater SUV as the Boreal, based on the Dacia Bigster platform. Unlike the Bigster, which is a 5-seater, the Boreal may come in both 5- and 7-seater configurations.
The Renault Boreal will debut globally in the coming months, with Brazil being the first launch market. It is expected to be introduced in over 70 countries, primarily outside Europe.
Renault plans to launch the Boreal in India in late 2026, following the new-gen Duster. It will be built on the CMF-B platform, shared with the Duster and Nissan SUVs.
The Renault Boreal will lock its horns with models such as the Hyundai Alcazar, Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari, and MG Hector Plus. Furthermore, it will also compete with the upcoming Maruti Grand Vitara 7-seater and the Toyota Urban Cruiser 7-seater.
The Boreal could borrow powertrains from the Dacia Bigster, which include mild hybrid petrol, mild hybrid 4x4, and a full hybrid. Renault is considering hybrid options for India to offer more efficient, cost-effective alternatives to conventional petrol SUVs.
