Dacia CEO Denis Le Vot has confirmed that a Duster-based electric SUV is currently under development. It will be branded as the Dacia Duster Electric in global markets and is likely to be launched in India as the Renault Duster Electric.
The Duster EV will use Renault’s CMF-BEV platform, an electrified version of the CMF-B architecture. This platform supports both single- and dual-motor setups, enabling the possibility of an electric 4x4 drivetrain, aligning with Duster’s rugged SUV image.
To balance affordability and capability, the Duster Electric is expected to come in both single- and dual-motor variants. The single-motor version would target urban buyers with lower prices, while the dual-motor AWD variant would cater to offroad enthusiasts.
Renault is reportedly planning an Indian debut for the Duster EV in the coming years. The company has been in talks with local battery and cell manufacturers, suggesting that localisation will play a key role in cost competitiveness.
While the Duster EV is still a few years away, Renault India is currently focused on launching facelifts of the Triber and Kiger, along with the next-gen Duster and its 7-seater sibling—hinting at a comprehensive refresh of its SUV lineup before entering the EV space.
