Several Indian automakers like Mahindra and Maruti Suzuki have their cars and SUVs on sale in the South African market.
Tata Motors also used to sell its cars in the country, but it exited from there back in 2019. It still continued exporting commercial vehicles to South Africa though.
The carmaker has now re-entered the African country with four new cars — Punch, Tiago, Curvv, and Harrier.
As of now, the company has only launched petrol and diesel cars in the country, though it might bring in alternative fuel powertrains like CNG and electrics in the future.
Tata has started operations via a network of 40 dealerships, which they plan to expand to 60 by 2026. It has partnered with Motus Holdings for distribution, retail, and aftersales.
The carmaker is only offering the less powerful turbo-petrol engine on the Curvv, skipping the diesel and the direct injection turbo-petrol for now.
