The upcoming Tata Sierra will be offered with two brand-new 1.5-litre petrol engines — a T-GDI turbocharged petrol and a naturally aspirated petrol, expanding Tata’s petrol lineup beyond the current 1.2-litre offerings.
The new 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine will help keep the Sierra’s starting price competitive, enabling Tata to rival the lower variants of the Creta, Seltos, Elevate, Grand Vitara, Hyryder, and Astor in the midsize SUV segment.
The 1.5-litre T-GDI turbo petrol engine is aimed at higher variants, ready to compete directly with turbocharged rivals from Hyundai and Kia. It is expected to offer performance and refinement upgrades, and will also be used in the upcoming Harrier and Safari petrol models.
Tata Motors has not yet revealed the gearbox choices for the new engines. However, to stay competitive, the Sierra is expected to offer both manual and automatic options, like most of its segment rivals.
The Tata Sierra is slated to launch between September and October 2025, aligning with the festive season. It will take on popular midsize SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, and Honda Elevate.
