Toyota India has launched updated Fortuner and Legender SUVs featuring a 2.8-litre turbocharged diesel engine with a new 48V mild-hybrid system, branded as Neo Drive. This engine is shared with the Neo Drive variants of the Taisor and Hyryder.
Despite the addition of the mild-hybrid system, the performance figures remain unchanged at 204PS and 500Nm. However, efficiency is expected to improve, especially in city driving, aided by features like idle start/stop and better throttle response.
The hybrid variants come with all existing features of the standard trims such as seven airbags, ISOFIX mounts, and ventilated front seats. Additionally, the Neo Drive versions get a surround view camera as a unique offering.
The hybrid variants carry a Rs 2 lakh premium over their respective standard diesel versions. Variant-wise pricing is yet to be announced by Toyota India.
Bookings for the hybrid Fortuner and Legender are now open, with deliveries set to begin in the third week of June 2025. A similar hybrid upgrade for the Toyota Hilux is anticipated soon.
