The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara are essentially the same cars, and have jointly been developed by the two Japanese manufacturers.
Maruti usually sells many more units of the SUV than what Toyota sells. For instance, MSIL sold 56,050 Vitaras over the last six months, while Toyota sold 32,418 Hyryders in the same period.
What’s noteworthy is that over the last two months, the sales of the Hyryder surpassed those of the Grand Vitara.
In May 2025, Toyota sold 7,573 Hyryders, while MSIL sold 5,197 Grand Vitaras. In June 2025, these numbers stood at 7,462 and 6,828 units respectively.
The SUVs come in a variety of engine options including a 1.5-litre petrol engine, a 1.5-litre petrol engine with CNG, and a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a strong-hybrid system.
7-seater versions of both the SUVs have been spied testing, and are soon expected to be launched, with exact timelines yet to be disclosed.
