The upcoming Volkswagen Tayron, a 3-row SUV based on the Taigun platform, has been spotted testing on Indian roads for the first time with MH temporary plates.
The Tayron’s design closely resembles the Tiguan R Line but features a longer body, extended by 231mm. It sports sleek LED headlamps and a sculpted rear with LED elements. An R badge spotted under the mirror hints at a sportier R Line trim for India.
Inside, the Tayron carries a clean, modern layout with a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment unit and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. It is expected to offer a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, wireless charging, three-zone climate control, and Level 2 ADAS.
The Tayron is likely to get the same 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine as the Tiguan R Line, producing 204PS and 320Nm, paired with a 7-speed DSG and all-wheel drive. Volkswagen is also exploring the reintroduction of diesel engines, and the Tayron could potentially lead that revival.
Volkswagen is expected to launch the Tayron in India by the end of 2025. Once launched, it will compete with premium 3-row SUVs like the Skoda Kodiaq, Toyota Fortuner, Jeep Meridian, MG Gloster, and the upcoming MG Majestor.
