Volvo is set to launch its most affordable electric vehicle, the EX30, in India in 2025. Recent spy shots of the EX30 testing on Indian roads (wearing HR registration plates and heavy camouflage) indicate that the launch is in advanced stages.
Positioned as a compact electric SUV (though more of a hatchback in size), the EX30 is Volvo’s smallest EV yet. Once launched, it will rival other electric crossovers like the Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and BYD Sealion 7.
The EX30 borrows styling cues from the larger EX90, including Thor-Hammer LED headlights, enclosed grille, 19-inch alloy wheels, and vertical LED tail lights. Feature highlights include Google-based infotainment system, Park Pilot Assist, surround view camera with sensors, ADAS suite and premium surround sound system.
Coming to the Volvo EX30 powertrains, it offers two options in the global market — RWD and AWD. The AWD variant and RWD Extended Range variants come with the 69kWh battery pack while the base RWD variant packs a 51kWh battery pack.
Volvo plans to launch the EX30 in 2025, with consideration for the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route to reduce costs. This strategy follows the success of the Volvo EX40, which gained traction in India thanks to its competitive pricing as a CKD unit.
