The first-generation Cayenne 955 entered the market in 2003 with mixed reviews upon its release. Some sports car enthusiasts scowled at the thought of Porsche producing an SUV, but the rest of the world adored it. As a result, Porsche had an instant best-seller on its hands, generating money that the corporation could reinvest in its sports car line-up.
The second-generation Porsche Cayenne 958 debuted at the 2010 Geneva Motor show as a 2011 model. It had larger dimensions than its predecessors, which had a sloping rearwards shape. It had a slanting rear window, a sloping roofline and compact windows at the rear inspired by the Carrera GT model. This model was a lot lighter than its predecessor, with a total weight reduction of 250 kg due to more use of aluminium and magnesium in its build. The 2018 model of the third generation was heavily based on the Porsche 911 sports car, which was upgraded cosmetically and introduced rear-axle steering for the first time.
The Cayenne is available with three different powertrains and two different engines. The base Cayenne has a 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine with 340PS and 450Nm, while the Cayenne Turbo has a 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo engine with 550PS and 770Nm. The 8-speed automatic transmission is linked to both engines.
The E-Hybrid variant is powered with a similar 3.0-litre petrol engine as the base Cayenne, but with the addition of a 136PS electric motor, bringing total power output to 462PS and 700Nm. An 8-speed automatic transmission distributes power to all four wheels.
The Stuttgart-based automaker has verified that the Cayenne E-Hybrid has a 44-km all-electric range and can reach 135 Kmph on pure electric power.

Porsche unveiled the third generation of the luxury driven series of Cayenne at a spectacular event at the Frankfurt Motor show in 2017. Despite including an array of standard equipment, this model was built 65 kgs lighter with brilliance in its lightweight construction. This new Cayenne has been built from scratch, with an evolutionary exterior on a new platform and redesigned interior. This mid-size series sports utility vehicle has been manufactured since 2002 by the German carmaker Porsche and specifically in North America in 2003. Cayenne has been the pioneer in many distinctive ways by premiering in the manufacturing of V8 engines since 1995 when the Porsche 928 model was stopped. It is the first four-door off-roader version since the super and junior tractors were built in the 1950s.
Cayenne is available in three variants, starting from the base variant, which is automatic and has a torque converter followed by Cayenne Turbo and the hybrid variant Cayenne E-hybrid. The Porsche Cayenne is available in Jet black metallic, Carrara white metallic, black, lava orange, Biskay blue metallic, Moonlight Blue Metallic, Palladium Metallic, Rhodium Silver Metallic and white. The pricing of the Cayenne Petrol version goes from Rs. 1.26 crore up to 1.93 crores, while the price of the hybrid version of electric and petrol is from 1.69 crores to 1.89 crores.
Other large premium SUVs like the Audi Q7, BMW X5, Mercedes GLE and Range Rover Velar and Sport, Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT are competitors to the Porsche Cayenne. At the same time, Volvo XC90 Excellence Plug-in Hybrid competes with Cayenne e-Hybrid, priced lower than the hybrid version.

The 20-inch wheels and air suspension creates the admirable off-roading capability for Porsche Cayenne with good responsiveness to changing road conditions. Although you can hear it functioning and sense some vertical motions over rippled surfaces, the system can smooth out most road irregularities without excessively boosting the damping force.
The Porsche Cayenne is a fantastic sports car option. The Cayenne's high-octane performance will appeal to drivers who crave speed. The S variant, which comes with a turbocharged V6 engine, can reach 60 mph in 5.2 seconds. On the other hand, the muscular Turbo variant accelerates to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds. The Sport Chrono package, available as an option, boosts the fast SUV's performance.
The third-generation Cayenne offers a myriad of safety features. As per the feedback from the market, the SUV is coupled with one of the best braking systems in the market. Long-distance travel is made more accessible with the adaptive cruise control system, which is available as an option. Additional safety features include a surround-view camera and blind-spot monitoring.
To begin with, few SUVs have the same curb appeal as the Porsche Cayenne. The Cayenne, like practically all Porsche vehicles, attracts a lot of attention from passers-by. The SUV's curved form provides it with a distinct advantage over its competitors.
Many car customers will be unable to afford the new model. The diesel model, withdrawn for the Indian market, was the cheapest variant from the line-up. The most well-equipped Turbo S variant costs Rs. 1.93 crore, which is astronomical.
Porsche owners will need to lay aside some more money for maintenance when the original warranty expires. Replacement parts for the Cayenne can be somewhat costly due to its exclusivity. The SUV must also be taken to a Porsche-certified technician.
The Porsche Cayenne is not economical. The turbo model gives as low as 5.95 kmpl mileage in the city.
Starting on the interior, the new cabin decor is more appealing and modern, and passengers should notice considerable refining improvements as well. The already remarkable dynamics have been further enhanced by a lighter chassis and suspension changes, as well as, as expected, increased efficiency.
The lack of a diesel variant has been a let-down for the Indian market, and the high-end models come with a hefty price tag. On the other hand, hybrid cars appeal to Porche users because of their reduced CO2 emissions. A new chassis control system called 4D monitors an array of sensors, sending feedback to the air suspension system to attain optimal responses from the varying road conditions. Cayenne's off-road ability has improved dramatically with several gravel, mud, sand, and rock settings. When you're on the road, these four driving modes and rear-wheel steering with active anti-roll bars selected make the Cayenne stand out from the crowd. Even without these pricey options, the Porsche sets a new standard for the class regarding ride and handling.
Despite its excellent handling qualities, the new Cayenne performs admirably as a sleek and relaxing cruiser, with only a slight road roar from the huge tyres and little wind noise to disturb the peace. With an 18-way electronic adjustment on the turbo variant and a wide range of steering wheel adjustments, the cabin will be able to accommodate most individuals comfortably. Drivers aiming for an upscale model of SUV should go for Cayenne. Although it comes with heavy pricing, the owner will be rewarded with a notable driving experience. Being comfortable, technology-oriented, safe, and feature-loaded, this SUV is one of the best.
