Renault Kwid EV summary

The Kwid EV (City K-ZE) was displayed for the first time at the Shanghai Motor Show. In China, the all-electric sedan is presently available for purchase. For the Chinese market, it has an NEDC-certified range of 270 kilometres.

It has a 26.8 kWh battery pack that produces 44 horsepower and 125 Nm of torque.

In 30 mins, it can recharge from 30% to 80%.

A 26.8 kWh battery pack powers the all-electric hatchback that powers a synchronous reluctance motor with 44 horsepower and 25 pound-feet of torque.

The top speed is 105 kilometres per hour.

The Kwid EV comes with quick-charging capabilities. It can charge from 30% to 80% in 30 minutes using a DC fast charger. However, a standard AC charger will take roughly 4 hours to recharge the batteries from 0% to 100%.

The very same CMF-A platform that underpins the conventional Kwid will power the Kwid EV. The sole difference between both the traditional Kwid and the Kwid EV is how they are powered. Meanwhile, the Kwid facelift, which will debut soon, may be similar in fashion to the Kwid EV.

The inside has the same style and layout as the regular Kwid, with the addition of an 8-inch tablet infotainment system, 4G WiFi, and voice recognition as significant features for the all-electric version.

The all-electric compact includes a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System and Renault's Easy Link intelligent connect system. It also comprises a built-in air quality management system and a slew of safety measures, such as a high-temperature automatic cut-off to preserve the battery pack.

Renault Kwid EV LATEST UPDATES

In China, Renault just unveiled the City-KZE, an electric version of the Kwid. The Kwid EV is slated to debut in India in 2022. Renault's five-year strategy from 2017 to 2022 emphasises this launch. The Chinese variant’s electric engine on the front axle produces 44 PS of maximum power and 125 Nm of maximum torque. The battery pack has a capacity of 26.8 kWh and requires 4 hours to charge when utilising a 6.6kWh AC source of electricity altogether. The City K-ZE also supports DC rapid charging, which can charge the cells from 30% to 80% in about half an hour. Renault has equipped the City K-ZE with an 8-inch widescreen navigation system, 4G WiFi access, online music support, remote car telemetry, a PM2.5 air quality scanner, and a tire compression surveillance system.

It will compete against Maruti Suzuki's planned XL5 EV and Mahindra's eKUV100 whenever it is released. The Renault Kwid EV will have a localised level of about 75% at launch. Renault will strive to localise it even more once it is on the market, constructing the battery and producing the e-motor locally. Renault has stated that it intends to make cells here in the future. A raised ride height reduces the risk of damage to the car's battery pack located in the trunk. The Kwid EV will have a similar appearance and functionality to the normal petrol-powered Kwid.

Renault is working very hard to really get the all-electric Kwid EV to India. The car is now available in China, and the Indian iteration will most definitely have the same features. A 26kWh battery pack is planned to power a near-45hp internal combustion engine in the Kwid EV for India. In the Indian version, the ground elevation is likely to be modified.

The risk of breaking the car's battery pack housed in the trunk is reduced by raising the ground clearance. The Kwid EV will look and perform similarly to the standard gasoline Kwid. At introduction, the Renault Kwid EV will also have a standardisation level of roughly 75%. Renault will work to localise the vehicle even further once it is on the market, building the battery and manufacturing the e-motor in-house. Renault has claimed that in the future, it plans to manufacture cells in India.

Renault Kwid EV EXPERT REVIEWS

At Auto Expo 2020, Renault unveiled the Kwid's all-electric brother. The Renault K-ZE electric vehicle is built on the same CMF-A chassis as the Kwid, with a few changes to allow batteries and an electric powertrain. It has a peak speed of 105 kmph and a synchronous reluctance electric motor that produces 44 PS and 125 Nm propels it. A 26.8 kWh battery pack powers the electric motor, which has an NEDC range of 270km. A 'rapid charge' option is also available, which can power up the batteries from 0% to 80% in 30 minutes. The packs take 4 hours to recharge to total capacity in the standard charging process.

The K-ZE may be released in 2022 when the country's charging infrastructure improves. However, the corporation will not take this step right away since the expenses are excessively high and require a partner's involvement. The Kwid EV is likely to have a range of more than 200 kilometres, and Renault may release a variant with a relatively more excellent battery that offers a more extended range, depending on demand. Projected Kwid EV costs start around Rs 7 lakh, making it one of the nation's most inexpensive electric vehicles.

The Kwid EV for India is expected to have a 26 kWh battery pack powering a near-45 hp electric engine. The footing clearance may be changed in the Indian version. Our verdict: Go for it!
