Renault Scala summary

In 2012, Renault launched the much-awaited Scala in India. Renault wanted to compete in the premium segment with its counterparts like Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Vento. These cars were doing incredibly well, and Renault wanted to compete with them.

Scala came with two variants: Petrol and Diesel. The 1.5L, four-cylinder engine in the petrol variant can produce 97.64hp and 134 Nm of torque. The diesel variant came with a 1.5L, four-cylinder engine with 1,461CC.

These engines are capable of producing 85 hp and with a torque of 200 Nm. The buyer can choose between an automatic transmission system or a 5-speed manual gearbox to get the generated output to the vehicle's front wheels.

According to the manufacturer, the braking and suspension system of the Scala is pretty outstanding, and it is supposed to be both sound and safe in practically all circumstances.

The suspensions on its front wheels are McPherson struts, while its rear wheels are torsion beams. This system is effective enough to endure most of the jerks encountered on Indian roads. Scala's power steering is also reasonably effective. It has an impressive turning radius of around 5.3 meters, supported by the system.

Renault Scala had only one generation, and the car went out of production in 2017.

The Renault Scala is a sedan produced by the French automaker Renault. It is available in two petrol and two diesel engine configurations. In addition to a 1,498 cc petrol engine, there is also a 1,461 cc diesel engine variant.

Both variants are coupled to a five-speed manual transmission; there is no option for an automatic transmission with either engine or transmission. In addition, the Renault Scala is equipped with an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), two airbags in the front, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, and impact beams. Not only that, but it also comes with speed-sensing automatic door locks and a hazard warning switch.

The vehicle’s most notable features are power steering, power windows, a speed-sensing auto door lock, and a music system with USB, AUX, and Bluetooth connectivity.

Renault has gone to great lengths to distinguish the Scala from its Japanese counterpart, and it sure has succeeded. The Renault Scala aspires to be a premium offering, thanks to its upmarket appearance, large interiors, and competitive pricing, among other things.

The latest update on the car is that it was discontinued in 2017, and it is out of production now.

Renault Scala PRO’s & CON’s

  • Things We Like
  • Things we don’t like

The Renault Scala is a stylish sedan with a powerful engine. In addition, this sedan's electric power steering technology makes driving a breeze.

The Scala's chrome door handles and outer rear view mirrors are particularly eye-catching.

The car boasts many unique features that set it apart from its competitors in its market segment.

Scala's wheel arches, door handles, and body-colored exterior rearview mirrors may all be found on the vehicle's side profile.

The Renault Scala has essential safety features that keep its occupants safe. For example, dual front airbags lower the chance of injury in a crash. In addition, there are speed-sensing automatic locks on this car and an anti-theft alarm that provides an enhanced level of protection to its passengers.

A few interior highlights include a multi-information display, air conditioning with automatic climate control, and electronic external wing mirrors.

There are some cons of this car as well. Drivers have reported instability when the car goes over 120 kmph. However, the Indian roads are not designed for that speed, and casual users will not have too many problems.

The interior of the car can feel a little bit sluggish. This is because the dashboard, mainly, is not made of premium materials.

Renault could have offered a more premium version of the car with premium materials on the interiors.

Renault’s service isn’t exactly top-notch, unlike brands like Hyundai.

The price of the car might also throw some people off. Many feel that this could have been priced a little better.

The user interface on the infotainment screen is not driver-friendly, and there’s room for improvement on the software front.

Renault Scala IMAGES

The Renault Scala's front face replaces Sunny's softness with assertiveness. The Scala now has a more substantial visual appeal. Great-looking headlamps and nose grille give it a competitive edge.

Scala's rear profile is smarter than Sunny's. The tail lamps are restyled with a Skoda Rapid C appearance. On the boot is a chrome dash with “SCALA” encrypted. Like the front fascia, the bumpers on the back are two-tone. The Renault Scala's exterior design is stunning and will appeal to young buyers seeking a Sunny class sedan with strong and athletic styling.

The Renault Scala's interior is identical to the Micra and Sunny. The Scala likewise has superior leather upholstery and similar features. Like its Nissan cousins, the Scala has a circular AC control panel. The Scala's 2600 mm wheelbase makes it a large sedan. All passengers have plenty of legroom. The Scala is a great car to drive.

The Scala handled well through the hard turns on the ghats. The Scala's suspensions also contributed to our enjoyment of the Scala, and we were impressed.

The Scala's power delivery is fantastic, between 2,500 and 3,500 rpm in third gear. The torque distribution is relatively balanced across the RPM range. Despite its length, the Scala's handling is accurate, and it can turn on a dime.

On the mileage front, you will get about 14.6 Km/L on the diesel RxZ variant. For the diesel, Renault claims 21 Km/L and the petrol 16.95 Km/L.

Overall, with the Scala, you will feel that you got a good deal with the deal. For the price, Renault offers you a premium experience, although it had to cut costs in a few places to bring you the car at this price.
