Skoda Superb summary

The Škoda Superb was first introduced in 2004 in India. The luxurious sedan had many features to offer in that era, like 6-speed DSG transmission, massive boot storage, seat adjustment memories, electric seat adjustment, etc., which every other car manufacturer did not offer. The old generation of Superb was discontinued in 2009. At the same time, Škoda launched its facelift variant in 2020. It was well known for its comfort and luxury.

Both variants of the Superb share the same engine and transmission. A 1984cc turbocharged petrol engine with direct fuel injection, producing 188 bhp at 4200 rpm and 320 nm at 1450 rpm. It is available in 7-speed DCT (Dual Clutch) Automatic Transmission.

Some of the interesting features include a wireless smartphone charger, a 360-degree camera to assist in parking, an Amundsen infotainment system with Canton audio that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Park Assist, 8 airbags, a sunroof, 3-zone climatronic AC, and four drive modes:

1. Eco Mode

2. Normal Mode

3. Sport Mode

4. Individual Mode

Superb Sportline has comparatively fewer features compared to L&K. Sportline has glossy black trims on the front grille, door, and windows. Black Alcantara seats and dashboard finish on the interior, whereas the L&K variant has more chrome.

Škoda’s simply clever sedan Superb has an elegant design and top-class finish, and road presence. It is mainly known for its build quality, smooth rides, and safety. Superb is very spacious, comfortable, and loaded with tonnes of features. It stays focused on even the slightest details, for example, Illuminated door pockets, ticket holder on the windshield, request sensors on the rear door, etc.

The Škoda Superb now has many new features. The new Superb has some of the new features, including a 360-degree camera that assists in driving that gives a good driving experience. It offers LED headlamps, tail lamps, DRLs, and dynamic turn indicators except for the front ones which are halogen bulbs.

Škoda offers two variants in this segment; one of which is Superb Sportline, and the other is L&K (Laurin and Klement). It is named after the founders of Škoda. Both variants offer unique colour options, which are, of course, eye-catching. The Sportline offers Race Blue, Steel Gray, and Moon White colour options. Skoda Superb PRO’s & CON’s

  • Things We Like
  • Things we don’t like

Built on Volkswagen’s MQB platform which uses high-strength steel to make a lighter, safer monocoque. VW Auto Group cars are well known for their build quality and safety. Superb offers a safety rating of 5-star Euro NCAP, making it one of the safest cars in the market.

The driving experience is outstanding, an amazing car to be driven around in. The sedan is very spacious and has plenty of legroom and a massive 625 litres boot storage.

The overall performance of the sedan is breathtaking. The DSG gearbox performs quite well and has a minimal lag compared to other DSG gearboxes.

It comes with a 12 speaker Canton stereo system. Also, the sedan has a soft suspension that makes it easier to drive in rough city conditions.

Besides being luxurious and a powerful sedan, it manages to deliver a decent fuel economy of 15.10 kmpl (ARAI).

Škoda should’ve offered diesel engines, as most of the Superbs will be chauffeur-driven, and people are more concerned about getting better mileage from their car.

Not everyone is a fan of beige interiors. Some can also like their interiors in darker colours. The Superb has no options for darker interiors.

Although Škoda claims the Superb has a panoramic sunroof, it comes with a slightly wider but regular sunroof. Whilst a regular sunroof can open and close, it lets in less natural light and doesn’t give the feeling of spaciousness as compared to a panoramic sunroof.

According to many car enthusiasts that have driven the current and older models of Superb, it has always been the first choice in terms of luxury and value. As it offers more features than the pricier luxury cars it competes with.

For those looking for a luxurious car without the flashy badge, the Superb delivers in spades. The Superb has always been famous for rear-seat legroom and comfort. It has more legroom than the A6, E-Class, or 5-series. One would have to look at the S-Class and its competitors to find the same amount of legroom.

It is equipped with 8 airbags, ABS, Park Assist, and also has a 5-star Euro NCAP rating. The latest Superb is one of the safest luxury sedans available in the market. It comes with a 7-speed DSG (Dual Clutch) transmission. Although DSG transmissions are not very reliable, Škoda’s German technology makes for reliable and convenient transmission. The Camry is priced higher than the Superb; however, in terms of luxury, comfort, and features, the Superb is the one you might want to choose. The Superb also competes with models from luxury brands that can cost almost twice its price.

Nothing really to complain about the sedan, but the only thing that felt missing was the turbo-diesel engine offered in the old variant Superb. Compared to other luxurious sedans like Audi A6, Mercedes E-Class, BMW 5-series, and Toyota Camry, Superb is the best bargain. Although Škoda should also try to offer more interior colour options and dark interior options.
