Skoda Yeti summary

Skoda, a Czech automaker, is well-known in India for its premium cars. The Yeti has been on the market since 2010, but because of its boxy form and high price tag, it has yet to make an impression in the Indian market. The Yeti made its world debut at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show, and it is now Skoda's oldest vehicle.

In Sep 2014, Skoda launched a facelift of the Yeti in the Indian market. The modified Yeti has various visual changes on the outside and inside, as well as some new equipment.

Skoda discontinued the Yeti in 2017. Skoda revealed the second-generation Yeti in Stockholm. Skoda had dropped the 'Yeti' name in favour of the 'Karoq,' which will be the name of the future compact SUV. The MQB architecture, which also supports the Volkswagen Tiguan and the Skoda Kodiaq, is used for the second-generation Yeti.

The Skoda Yeti is powered by a 2.0 liter (1968 cc) four-cylinder diesel engine that makes 108 bhp and 250 Nm in the 2WD configuration, and 138 bhp and 320 Nm in the 4WD configuration.

The Yeti is offered only in diesel petrol fuel type.

The engine on the Yeti comes mated to either a 5-speed manual (2WD variant), or a 6-speed manual transmission (4WD variant).

  • Things We Like
  • Things we don’t like

The Yeti looks properly premium on the outside, and manages to stand out amongst its competitors.

The build quality of the Yeti is top notch. Everything feels solidly built, and long lasting.

The interior quality is comparable to German cars costing 30 lakh rupees. Everything in the interior has a sturdy, high-quality feel. There are no unattractive parting line, or semblance of shoddy workmanship

Despite the Yeti's diminutive size, the interior space has been wisely utilised, and legroom is comparable to that of the larger sedans. The Yeti is as comfortable as it gets for a family of five.

Top trims boasts a lot of features including Cruise control, electrical adjustable driver seat with memory functions, touch screen infotainment system with Bluetooth connection, keyless entry and go, steering mounted controls, electrically foldable wing mirrors, 8-speaker OEM audio system, Auto dimming ORVMs and IRVMs, and Dual zone climate control.

The dynamics of the car is so incredible, that it can even put some sedans and hatchbacks to shame. The vehicle stays absolutely glued to the roads even at high speeds, and there isn't even a hint of body roll.

The Yeti is highly capable off-road.

The engine on the Yeti packs a good amount of punch.

The Yeti has a 5 star NCAP safety rating and comes with host of safety features such as six airbags, ABS with EBD, Brake Assist (BA), Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Traction Control hill-hold control, tyre pressure monitoring system, 3-point seatbelts for all passengers, active head restraints, parking sensors, and multiple other features to keep the passengers secure.

The Yeti is priced on the premium side. This pulls it out of the value for money equation.

With the facelift update, Skoda has axed out the base variant of the Yeti.

The Yeti lacks the bulk and presence of a full-size SUV, and in India, the bigger the better. Furthermore, the design is not to everyone's liking.

Owing to the stiff suspension setup, low speed ride isn't all that comfortable.

The Yeti does not have a petrol engine on offer.

Automatic gearbox not on offer.

Skoda after sales service has been on the expensive side.

Skoda Yeti EXPERT REVIEWS

Skoda's Yeti, is a robustly engineered, well-built, spacious, and fun to drive compact SUV. The dynamics of the car is incredible. Sure, the stiff suspension setup does make slow speed ride a bit firm, but it also gives an amazing stability and control to the car both on corners and highways. The 4X4 setup also makes the Yeti quite capable off-road. Moreover, with the facelift, Skoda has made the Yeti's already premium cabin, more special, and has loaded to the brim with features. Overall, though, the Yeti might not have the road presence of a fortuner or an Endeavour, it comes out as a unique, and special package.

The Yeti simply demolishes its rivals in terms of dynamics and drive experience. Moreover, its sheer quality and toughness, along with loads of creature comfort features, gives it an edge.

Best features on the Skoda Yeti include Bi-Xenon headlamp with LED DRLs, Cruise control, powered driver seat with memory functions, touch screen with Bluetooth, keyless entry and go, steering mounted controls, 8-speaker audio system, and Dual zone climate control.

On nearly every type of terrain, whether it's a highway, broken patch of road, twisties, or anything else, the Yeti will manage to make you smile on the majority of them. The Yeti's handling is also excellent. The Yeti can attack corners at a respectable speed, courtesy its excellent steering responsiveness and well-tuned suspension. However, the ride quality, which may be unpleasant at times, is a trade-off. But as the speed increases, the Yeti just glides over most of the bad roads. The Yeti will retain a mileage of around 17.72 kmpl (ARAI claimed).

The Skoda Yeti is an engineering marvel in itself. It is fun to drive, very surefooted, premium inside, as well as practical. However, the Yeti is not cheap by any standards. So, if you are the sort of a buyer who prioritises robust engineering, quality feel, and premium cabin, this Urban SUV is for you.

The Yeti is amongst the safest cars in its class, with a 5 star NCAP safety rating.
