Tata History

Formerly known as Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company Ltd, Tata Motors was established in 1945 as a branch of Tata Group to manufacture locomotives. It constructed its first commercial vehicle in 1954 after collaborating with Daimler Benz AG, which ended in 1969. The company, in 1991, entered the market of passenger vehicles with the launch of Sierra. Post-entering the passenger segment, the company became the first Indian company to manufacture a competitive automobile on its own and, grew up to acquire Daewoo Commercial Vehicles Company in 2004 and purchase Jaguar Land Rover from Ford in 2008.
