Toyota prado summary

In India, Toyota has finally released the redesigned Land Cruiser Prado. This is the model's third makeover since its introduction in 2009, and it was first seen globally at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2017. It made its premiere at the 2018 Auto Expo in India. The Land Cruiser Prado, as a CBU import, competes in price with the Audi Q7, BMW X5, Volvo XC90, Land Rover Discovery, Porsche Cayenne, and the Mercedes Benz GLE. With this facelift, Toyota intends to close the refinement and technological gap between the Land Cruiser Prado and its competitors.

The Prado is versatile and clever but misses out on the aesthetic excitement. On the inside, it's a similar scenario. The cabin is nice and solidly built, but it lacks the wow factor found in competing luxury German SUVs. The front seats are large and comfortable, and there's plenty of space in the back. The diesel engine is strong and smooth.

The Land Cruiser Prado is powered by a 3.0 litre (2982 cc) four-cylinder diesel engine that churns out 170 bhp of max power and 410 Nm of peak torque

Jeep offered the Grand Cherokee in both petrol and diesel fuel types.

The engine on the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado comes mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission.

Toyota prado PRO’s & CON’s

  • Things We Like
  • Things we don’t like

The Land Cruiser Prado has an immense road presence. It's larger than even the Fortuner.

The large front seats are comfortable for even tall passengers, and it has decent curves and excellent back and thigh support.

The ride quality enhances greatly as speed builds up; the SUV continuously flattens most of the undulations.

The 3.0-litre diesel engine offers loads of low end torque.

When you travel off-road, the full-time four-wheel-drive system provides excellent traction.

Toyota is famous for its reliability, and the Prado is no exception.

The Prado i imported into India as a fully assembled vehicle and hence, seems highly overpriced.

It feels too coarse for the price, and it lacks the elegance of a Volvo XC90 or an Audi Q7, or the tech of a Land Rover or a Porsche.

Driving is difficult due to the vehicle's large proportions. On the road, it feels weighty.

With almost 2,140 kg of kerb weight, Toyota could have given the Prado q bit more power, as it doesn't particularly feel fast when you smash your foot on the accelerator.

The automatic transmission isn't up to par. It takes a long time to respond to taps on the gear lever, and it takes a long time to upshift.

The steering is also a bit disappointing, as it does not gain enough weight as you accelerate.

Toyota prado EXPERT REVIEWS

The Prado is a popular choice among people looking for a tough vehicle that can take them off the beaten path in comfort. Toyota is famed for its dependability, and the Prado is no exception. The seats are comfy, there is enough legroom, and you get a strong sense of security when behind the wheel. Though the materials used in the cabin scream "durability" rather than "luxury," the interiors are well-built and long-lasting. It's also a practical vehicle. You can take this SUV someplace that others only dream of thanks to its imposing aesthetics, responsive engine, and well-equipped chassis. However, its exorbitant price is difficult to swallow, especially given the alternatives available from premium brands.

Best features on the Prado include three-zone climate control, Bluetooth connectivity, keyless entry and go, leather seats, air suspension 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, electrically adjustable steering, heated and ventilated seats. Toyota's Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System is also included, as well as adaptive dampers. Moreover, the Prado also comes with a 4WD system along with Multi-Terrain Select, and Multi-Terrain Monitor that includes 4 cameras, and a Panoramic View Monitor.

The Prado is a big vehicle and makes you feel like you're in charge of everything once you hit the road. When you put your foot down, the Prado, weighing roughly 2140 kg, doesn't feel very speedy. The gearbox responds slowly to taps on the gear lever and upshifts slowly. It stays composed and smooths out bumps when driven quickly over rough roads. On the road, the SUV bounce is well-controlled, and the electrically adjustable damping keeps body roll under surprising control in fast turns. Fuel efficiency wise, the vehicle will retain around 11.13 kmpl (ARAI claimed).

Safety features include parking sensors, reverse camera, seven airbags, cruise control. ABS with EBD and BA, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), tyre pressure monitoring system and angle sensor in intrusion.
