Ferdinand Pich, chairman of the VW Group, had the idea for the Phaeton. The Phaeton was also designed to boost the brand's general image, in addition to making luxury carmakers squirm. However, the Phaeton could not impress the North American crowd. It was discontinued there in 2004. The global sales of Phaeton stopped in 2016.

Excellent seating, an excellent temperature control system, excellent noise isolation, and a generally nice ride make the Phaeton a pleasant place to be. Even in the base model, there is a lot of room for passengers and cargo. Such overly large wheels may generate some thumping from underneath, so watch out for those.

With the best leather and wood Volkswagen could locate, the interior is built to last. The Polo's buttons and switches have been replaced with wonderful damped counterparts, and the result is almost imperceptible. After you've gone to the wrecking yard, the engines and drivetrain should still be working well.

The interior is massive, with plenty of room for heads, knees, and shoulders in both the front and back. With a 500-litre trunk, you'll have no problem loading your boss's luggage and golf clubs. The additional back legroom provided by the extended-wheelbase model is 120 millimetres.

When left in the middle position, the air suspension with adjustable damping does not handle nuggety surfaces or sharp undulations as well as intended. Despite its size, it has a high level of grip and can be leaned into corners rapidly. One engine, a three-litre TDI, with 230bhp, is all that's available here. It has a lot of power and a strong desire.

The Phaeton is a luxury sedan manufactured by the German carmaker Volkswagen. The Phaeton was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 2002 and went on sale globally. Sales in North America came to a stop in 2006, while sales throughout the world concluded in 2016.

Volkswagen's Ferdinand Pich envisioned the Phaeton as an answer to Mercedes-Benz and BMW's choice to go head-to-head in Europe with the A-Class and BMW 3 Series Compact, respectively, as a car that would outperform their respective German prestige market leaders. It was also hoped that the Phaeton would help to promote the Volkswagen brand name.

Volkswagen planned to produce an all-electric second generation when production ceased in March 2016. Over a hundred Phaeton-specific patents were issued as a result of the vehicle's development. Four-zone climate control and Torsen-based 4motion four-wheel drive are among the vehicle's unique characteristics.

An adaptive air suspension system with continuous damping control was incorporated to ensure a smooth ride. This was the first Volkswagen with Radar adaptive cruise control with automated distance regulation.

The starting price for the Volkswagen Phaeton is 77.16 Lakh. There are two versions of Phaeton: Manual and Automatic. The Phaeton is available in six colours: Arabesque-Silver, Cairo Grey, Campanella White, Luna Blue, Mazeppa Grey, and Tarantella Black. However, several of these colours are only available in a limited number of variants. Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Hyundai Elantra, and Skoda Octavia are the main competitors for the Phaeton.

The chrome nose of what has always been an unobtrusive car has been given a touch of elegance and purpose.

With four-zone climate control, the backseat passengers will be more comfortable, as well as those in the front who get heated seats. Less plastic means more space for passengers' legs and heads. The capacity of the trunk is 500 litres.

The 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine, with 236 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, is perfectly suited to the slow, leisurely movement favoured by the Phaeton's size and weight.

Even at higher cruising speeds, the Phaeton still feels well-endowed with poke and has good overtaking potential. Although the Phaeton's size can be restrictive in urban areas, its progressive step-off and well-judged throttle response make it an easy car to operate around town.

The Phaeton costs around Rs. 77 lakhs in India. You could get a second one for a much lower price, which would be a great deal for you since the Phaeton is packed with premium features.

Volkswagen Phaeton's exterior has been essentially unchanged throughout its life, with only the 2011 updates considerably altering the metalwork.

If you're used to the interiors of other high-end luxury vehicles, your initial impression of the Volkswagen Phaeton will be disappointing. This is especially true if you're considering one. However, if you are getting a good deal on a second-hand Phaeton, it might be worth it.

The class has also advanced in terms of ergonomics. Phaetons' seats are too high, window switches are too far away, and even the most up-to-date touchscreen navigation software can't keep up with the finest of today's competitors.

The 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine, with 236 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, is perfectly suited to the slow, leisurely movement favoured by the Phaeton's size and weight. When coupled with the six-speed torque converter automatic transmission, it makes for rather sluggish but well-blurred gearshifts that always arrive just when you need them to make the most of the torque's spread. However, even though the 'box does its job well, it has a sluggish response time and fewer ratios than other models in its class.

You can go from 0-100 kmph in just 8 seconds which is great but the Phaeton lags behind the other cars in its class. Phaeton's emissions of 224g/km are much below the class average, but its performance is not far behind the more modern and expensive machinery it competes with.

You would enjoy the premium cabin of the Phaeton. The interior is made from premium materials. Although we would have liked a more exquisite finish, the Phaeton’s cabin is still quite good.

The phrase "technological tour de force" could have been coined for the Phaeton when it was initially introduced. There are many similarities between this Volkswagen and Bentley's Continental line, which was based on this chassis. Volkswagen's Phaeton has a monocoque platform that is growing a beard when it extends the car's life cycle beyond that of a similar Bentley.
