Volvo S60 summary

The Volvo S60 is a mid-size executive automobile produced and marketed by Volvo since 2000. The first version (2000–2009) was introduced in 2000 to replace the S70, and it was built on the P2 platform. It had a similar-looking estate counterpart, the Volvo V70, as well as a sports version, the Volvo S60 R. The ECC concept car and the S80 were used as inspiration for the design. The Volvo S60 was produced for 9 years and saw many facelifts, unlike its competitors. The S60 had a facelift in 2005 and a final facelift in 2008.

The second-generation model (2010–2018) was released in 2010. In 2011, the second-generation model was introduced in India, with a starting price of Rs 27 lakh (ex-showroom). It came in three different versions and was available in petrol and diesel.

Volvo introduced the third generation in 2018 for the 2019 model year. It was based on the Scalable Product Architecture platform. However, it took some time for Volvo to bring the updated S60 to India. It was finally launched in early 2021 at a price tag of Rs 45.90 lakh (ex-showroom).

The 2021 Volvo S60 is built on Volvo's Scalable Platform and is the only car in its class with a transversely mounted engine. The S60 has a length of 4,761 mm, a height of 1,437 mm, a width of 2,039 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,873 mm. The boot capacity of the S60 is 328 liters.

Volvo is putting its best, most luxurious foot forward with the S60. The S60 has no sporting pretensions, instead emphasizing comfort, refinement, and luxury. If you want a luxury vehicle that is beautifully built, well-equipped, smooth, silky, quiet, and enjoyable to drive, this is an excellent pick for your money. It even has a unique look, rides well, and is also anticipated to be one of the safest vehicles in its class.

The Volvo S90 is powered by a 2.0 liter (1969 cc) 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine putting out 188 bhp of max power and 300 Nm of peak torque.

The power is channeled to the front wheels via an 8-speed torque converter. As per Volvo, the S60 will hit 100 kmph from a standstill in 7.9 seconds and can reach an electronically limited top speed of 180 kph.

Volvo S60 LATEST UPDATES

The Volvo S60 is a Swedish premium executive sedan that competes with German luxury sedans such as the Audi A4, Mercedes C Class, and BMW 3 Series. It has a beautiful exterior, luxury amenities, a relaxing driving experience, and plenty of safety features. This is undeniably a vehicle that sets out to calm you down rather than thrill you.

In India, Volvo launched a complete revamp of the S60 by early 2021 after it remained unchanged for almost a decade. The update guaranteed that the previous-generation S60 was completely overhauled, from design, interiors, and features to dimensions and even powertrain options.

Volvo offers the S60 in a single top-of-the-line Variant: T4 Inscription. It comes in five attractive colors: Onyx Black, Maple Brown, Crystal White Pearl, Fusion Red, and Denim Blue.

Top features on the Volvo S60 include a 9-inch tablet-style infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, heads-up display, wireless charging pad, electrically adjustable seats with massage function, 12.3-inch digital driver's display, satellite navigation.

Like every other Volvo vehicle, safety features on the S60 are plenty; to name a few - 6 airbags, tire pressure monitoring system, adaptive cruise control, cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, semi-autonomous driving aids like lane assist and pilot assist, and parking camera with sensors.

The Volvo S60 is available for Rs 45.90 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Volvo S60 competes with other luxury sedans in the Indian market, such as the Mercer C Class, Audi A4, and the BMW 3 Series.

  • Things We Like
  • Things we don’t like

Distinctive looking, the S90 has a regal air about it, thanks to its long-wheelbase, pushed-back cabin, and elongated bonnet.

Throughout the cabin of the S60, high-quality materials are used. There are portions of excellent grade leather and exquisite touch materials that feel fantastic to run your fingertips along. In fact, the quality level is almost similar to the more expensive Volvos.

The inside of the S60 is incredibly spacious, thanks to its segment-leading 2872 mm wheelbase. The front seats are also comfortable, featuring cushion extensions and 4-way lumbar support.

Offers impeccable safety with a host of driver safety assistance aids.

The motor is very silent, and even as you accelerate, there is scarcely any engine noise creeping inside the cabin. There are hardly any vibrations too, and the entire driving experience is incredibly peaceful.

Effortless highway cruiser; high-speed stability inspires great confidence.

No diesel engine on offer.

Only one trim option is available.

All touch buttons on the center console can be a bit irritating to use on the go.

Rear seats are placed a tad too low. Therefore, under-thigh support is a bit lacking.

Over poorly finished roads, the slightly stiffer suspension setup can be noticed as you do feel the car thud over larger bumps.

The Volvo S60 isn't a car that appreciates being pushed through tight corners; it's certainly not a BMW 3 Series. When you carry speed into corners, it rolls and feels sluggish when you try to hustle it.

Volvo's 2.0 petrol engine isn't fond of revving hard; After 5,000 rpm, it feels too strained.

Volvo S60 EXPERT REVIEWS

The Volvo S60 sedan is better suited to pamper its passengers than to raise their pulse rates. Volvo takes a different approach in a class where cars with truly aggressive driving qualities and gutsy engine options are the norm. On the outside, it is really distinctive, yet it also appears to be very classy and striking. On the inside, the cabin has a distinct Scandinavian flair and is tastefully fitted and completed, with a long list of amenities. The long-wheelbase provides plenty of interior room, and the seats are also extremely comfy. You do, however, sit quite low in the rear. The S60 isn't as fun-to-drive as its competitors, and Volvo's dealership network isn't very extensive, either. Altogether, the Volvo S60 clearly focuses on quality, comfort, refinement, and luxury rather than outright athleticism.

As soon as you get behind the wheel, you'll notice the S60's sense of refinement in the driving experience. There's only a distant hum, and the vehicle keeps moving effortlessly, whether it's in stop-and-go city traffic or out on the open road. The S60 is a comfortable and relaxing car to drive. At low speeds, the engine feels snappy, the steering is straight and perfectly weighted, and it also feels wonderfully stable and confident at high speeds. However, if you're hoping for some high-performance action, you'll be disappointed. The S60 is only interested in driving sedately. It's also nothing like the dynamics of a 3 Series in a corner, with plenty of body roll. On the plus side, the S60's suspension handles our rutted roadways rather admirably. It feels solid and confident at high speeds, with few movements entering the cabin.

Volvo's new S60 has a lot going for it. For starters, it has that seductive big-car feel that customers in this class crave. It has plenty of interior room, great levels of comfort, and material quality that rivals the best. Volvo has also equipped it with a lot of amenities, and no one comes close to matching the multitude of safety features and systems. So, if you're looking for a well-made, smartly styled premium car that's both soothing to drive and comfy to sit in, Volvo's new S60 has a lot to offer.
