My favourite car currently in India is the Maruti Suzuki Brezza. It strikes the perfect balance between practicality, style, and reliability. What I love most about the Brezza is its robust build quality, upright SUV stance, and excellent ride comfort, especially for city driving and occasional highway trips. I've been using the new Brezza for a few months now and I'm really happy with it. It's a great all-around SUV that's perfect for my needs. It's fuel-efficient, comfortable to drive, and has a lot of features. I especially like the heads-up display and the 360-degree surround view camera. The subcompact SUV market is filled to the brim with popular cars. Cars like the Tata Nexon have captivated buyers thanks to its strong build and great ride, while the Hyundai Venue delivers on features and practicality. However, across the country, there is one subcompact SUV that is popular amongst a variety of different types of buyers, and that is the Maruti Suzuki Brezza. Such is the versatility of the SUV, that despite most older Maruti SUVs not finding a solid footing, the Brezza did, selling over 8 lakh units since being launched in India. With the competition pulling forward, Maruti Suzuki has given the Brezza a thorough facelift, and an updated Dualjet K15C engine, which replaces the outgoing K15B. Let’s find out if the changes give the Brezza enough substance to take on the likes of the Nexon and Venue.

<p>In its latest guise, the exterior design has taken a turn to look futuristic, and not just modern. New headlamps with LED DRLs, and an overall squared off design come together really well to make this look like a butch subcompact SUV. In fact, its upright stance also contributes to it looking the biggest amongst all subcompact SUVs in India.</p><p><br> </p>
<p>Inside the cabin, the dashboard gets a fresh design, maintaining a neat, layered structure. However, while the interior is designed well, the quality of finish isn’t as good as its Korean rivals. What helps the Brezza are the features on offer — including the sunroof — which add a dose of modernity to the cabin, masking its shortcomings. The cabin is fairly practical too, with enough storage spaces all around. The 328-litre boot space, while smaller than some rivals, remains practical with a 60:40 split-folding rear seat. </p><p><br> </p>
<p>The Brezza has been designed to put ease of use in top spot, and that shines through on the comfort front. The seats are soft and comfy, and will make you feel rested as soon as you step in. However, softer seats tend to feel uncomfortable over long journeys, so this may not be the most comfortable place to be in if you're planning to drive interstate. Rear seats get plenty of space too, with ample headroom and knee room by subcompact standards. The cabin is also more accommodating for three passengers at the back than some narrower rivals.</p><p>The suspension of the Brezza is dialled to deliver a soft and absorbing ride. Bumps and potholes are handled well, but what's interesting is that despite having a soft setup, the car still maintains stability and doesn't feel floaty at higher speeds. The steering is easy to use, especially in urban environments. However, it doesn't return to centre after a turn, a common trait in many Marutis.</p>
<p> </p><p>If the suspension and seating didn't relax you, the 1.5-litre K15C Dualjet engine will. The upgraded unit gets dual injectors per cylinder, promising better ignition, and in-turn, better fuel economy. The Brezza can be purchased with factory fitted CNG as well, reducing running costs further. This makes the Brezza a breeze to use in city conditions, especially with the slick manual gearbox, and the responsive automatic unit. However, the tractable engine comes across as lethargic when driven spiritedly, and overtaking at higher speeds will need some planning.</p>

<p> </p><p>Based on Suzuki’s Global C platform (which is also known as the TECT platform), the last iteration of the Brezza delivered much better crash protection than other Marutis. The previous model managed to secure a 4-star crash test rating from Global NCAP, and with this car being underpinned by the same architecture, it promises to return the same, if not a better score as its predecessor. Possibilities of a better score are high too, considering that the Brezza is now equipped with six airbags across all variants, unlike its predecessor which only got two. Other safety features are also a part of the offering, including ABS, EBD, hill assist, ESP, ISOFIX child seat mounts, and lots more. A 360-degree parking camera also enhances usability, but is only reserved for the top spec ZXi+ variant.</p>
<p>While most variants of the Brezza aren't as well equipped, the top-end variants are finally up to the standards set by rivals. The ZXi+ variant features Suzuki's new SmartPlay Pro+ infotainment system, which is a 9-inch touchscreen unit that gets wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and even Connected Car tech. There's also a voice assistant that can be triggered by saying ‘Hi Suzuki’, and you could ask it to open the new sunroof, a first for a Maruti! The infotainment system is paired with an Arkamys tuned six speaker audio system that delivers pleasing audio, and the Brezza also gets a head-up display.</p><p><br> </p>
<p>The Maruti Suzuki Brezza is a very simple and straightforward car to understand. It is not meant for enthusiasts, or for people who like to go on many road trips. Instead, it fits the bill for pretty much every other buyer in the market. Comfortable, spacious, practical, easy to drive, feature loaded, economical, the Brezza is all of that, and then some. And for people who are willing to compromise on some features, lower variants offer great value. Higher variants do tend to get a little pricey, but the low running and maintenance costs paired with high resale value will more than make up for that. For most people who are looking to buy a small SUV, things can’t get much better than the Brezza.</p><p><br> </p>
