BMW has launched the eighth-generation BMW 5 Series in India. It is being offered in the LWB version for the first time, rivalling the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, which is also available in the LWB version in India.
Initially being offered in just one trim, the BMW 530Li M Sport LWB gets a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. This mill produces 258hp and 400Nm of torque. It also gets a 48V electric motor.
The new BMW 5 Series gets an illuminated kidney grille and sharp design cues, which make it look more aggressive than the outgoing 5 Series. The headlights and tail lights get a sleek and angular design, and there’s a large number ‘5’ embossed on the c-pillar.
The BMW 530Li M Sport measures 5,175mm in length, 1,900mm in width, and 1,520mm in height, which is 212mm longer, 32mm wider, and 41mm taller than the outgoing BMW 5 Series. The wheelbase is 130mm longer too, now measuring 3,105mm. This is longer than the outgoing, as well as the upcoming Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB.
The new BMW 5 Series gets a 14.9-inch floating infotainment screen with connected tech like Geo-fencing, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 12.3-inch driver's display, 655-Watt 18-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system, panoramic sunroof, four-zone climate control, wireless chargers both on the front and the back, ambient lighting and more.
The BMW 5 Series has been launched at a starting price of Rs 72.9 Lakhs (ex-showroom). It will directly rival the Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB, which is due for an update later this year.
