The 7-seater version of the Renault Duster, known globally as the Boreal, has been spotted testing in India under heavy camouflage. It features an extended rear overhang to accommodate a third row and showcases typical SUV elements like body cladding, a bold bumper, and a roof spoiler.
The Boreal is expected to follow the design language of the Dacia Bigster, sold in Europe as a 5-seater with a large boot. In India, this space will be repurposed to offer third-row seating, turning it into a true 7-seater SUV.
Renault India plans to launch two new SUVs, with the Boreal arriving after the new-gen Duster in the second half of 2026. It will be based on the CMF-B platform, shared with Nissan’s upcoming SUVs in India.
The Renault Boreal will compete with established 7-seaters like the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV700, and MG Hector Plus. It will also take on future rivals like the Maruti Grand Vitara 7-seater and Toyota Urban Cruiser 7-seater.
While the European Bigster offers mild hybrid petrol, 4x4 mild hybrid, and a full hybrid, it remains to be seen which will make it to the Indian Boreal. Renault has shown interest in bringing hybrid powertrains to India as a more cost-effective alternative to pure petrol engines.
