The Altroz EV was first showcased as a concept in 2019 and later as a pre-production model in 2020. However, its launch has faced multiple delays, overshadowed by Tata’s focus on electric SUVs like the Nexon EV, Punch EV, and upcoming Curvv EV.
Unlike the Tiago EV which uses a reworked ICE platform, the Altroz EV aimed for a more sophisticated setup with batteries under the floor. This significantly reduced its ground clearance by 20mm to 145mm—posing a problem for Indian roads and stalling development.
To address packaging issues, the Altroz EV will now be based on Tata’s new Acti.ev platform, also used by the Punch EV. This will allow better battery integration and platform efficiency compared to the earlier ICE-derived setups.
The Altroz EV is likely to borrow the Punch EV’s battery and motor options—either a 25kWh battery with 82PS or a 35kWh battery with 123PS, offering buyers a choice between efficiency and performance.
Though initially expected to follow the Harrier EV and Sierra EV, the Altroz EV launch has been pushed to early 2026, aligning with Tata Motors’ staggered EV rollout strategy.
