2nd hand car market trends in Mumbai as per Cars24’s internal data

Drivers across Mumbai largely rely on petrol as their primary fuel preference

As per Cars24’s internal data, used petrol cars lead the market for old cars in Mumbai, with a 62.56% share between January 2025 and July 2026. Used diesel cars, on the other hand, hold a 23.53% share, remaining a solid option for those with longer daily commutes or regular highway travel. Second hand CNG cars account for 13.2%, showing interest among cost-conscious drivers. Electric, LPG and hybrid cars together make up less than 1% of purchases, mainly due to developing charging infrastructure and limited LPG availability.

Here are the highest-selling used cars in Mumbai’s pre-owned car market

The Honda City, with a 5.15% share of aggregate used car transactions in Mumbai from January 2025 to July 2025, is the most popular used car model in Mumbai, followed by the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R 1.0 (4.42%) and Swift (4.18%).

The five Maruti Suzuki models in the top 10 add up to about 16.5% of all purchases, and the four Hyundai models add up to about 9.4%. Six of the ten models are hatchbacks, while the City, Dzire and Verna are the three sedans in the list, and the Ertiga (2.8%) is the only MUV among the top 10. In total, these ten models account for about 31% of used car demand in the city.

When it comes to used cars in Mumbai, hatchbacks lead the way

As per Cars24’s internal data, used hatchbacks lead the used car market in Mumbai with a 42.64% share between January 2025 and July 2026, driven by their compact, city-focused utility. Used sedans hold 29.13% of the market, remaining relevant for those seeking spacious and comfort-driven options.
