Current used car market trends in Pune as per Cars24’s internal data

For most commuters in Pune, petrol is the top fuel of choice

Cars24’s internal data for January 2025 to July 2026 shows that petrol cars account for 63.26% of used-car purchases in Pune, keeping them well ahead of other fuel types. Diesel vehicles contribute another 20.7%, bringing the combined share of petrol and diesel to roughly 84%. CNG stands out with a 15.2% share, indicating a notable presence in Pune’s used-car market rather than a marginal alternative. Its appeal is particularly relevant for buyers looking to manage running costs, provided refuelling stations are convenient for their regular routes. LPG, electric and hybrid vehicles together account for less than 1% of purchases, leaving the market largely concentrated around petrol, diesel and CNG options.

Swift, Wagon R and Honda City remain the most popular used car choices for Pune buyers

As per Cars24’s internal data on used-car transactions between January 2025 and July 2026, Pune’s used-car market has no clear front-runner. The Maruti Suzuki Swift accounts for 4.09% of purchases, with the Wagon R 1.0 close behind at 4.08%, a difference of just 0.01 percentage points. Maruti Suzuki features four times in the top 10 models, contributing around 13.7% of purchases, while Hyundai accounts for three models and roughly 7.8%. Tata adds two entries through the Tiago and Nexon. Hatchbacks dominate the list, occupying eight of the 10 positions; the Honda City is the only sedan, and the Nexon is the sole SUV. Collectively, these models represent about 29% of transactions, leaving the remaining demand spread across many other options.

For buyers in Pune, hatchbacks remain the most trusted used car option

Pune’s used-car demand leans heavily towards hatchbacks, which account for 54.76% of purchases, according to Cars24’s internal transaction data from January 2025 to July 2026. Sedans form the next-largest category at 23.15%, ahead of SUVs, whose combined share of compact and full-size models stands at 17.35%. The gap suggests that Pune buyers favour the everyday practicality of hatchbacks, while sedans retain a substantial following among those seeking more cabin space and a comfortable ride. SUVs have a smaller but visible presence, split almost evenly between compact models at 8.54% and full-size variants at 8.81%. MUVs and MPVs account for 3.89% of transactions, with vans making up the remaining 0.85%. Overall, the market is concentrated around three body styles, particularly hatchbacks.
