Honda Cars India Ltd, one of the biggest carmakers of the country, launched the tenth generation Civic in India in March last year. The latest sedan was introduced here in two variants – 1.8-litre petrol and 2.0-litre diesel. However, earlier this year, the petrol version was updated to meet the BS6 norms, while the diesel model was shelved as the company decided to update the motor at a later date. Finally, though, even the diesel version has been updated, which means the latest Honda Civic is the only D1-segment sedan, after the Hyundai Elantra, to be available in both petrol and diesel engine variants. The updated version of the company’s sporty sedan features all the traits of the previous version along with also offering an updated diesel motor that causes far lesser pollution than before.

Prices of the BS6 Honda Civic diesel start at INR 20.75 lakh and go all the way to Rs 22.35 lakh. Basically, the new model is available in two trim levels – VX and ZX. Both the variants come with a manual transmission.
As per Honda, the BS6 version of the Civic diesel is capable of delivering a mileage of 23.9 kmpl. However, even in real-world conditions, we’re sure that the updated car will be capable of delivering a mileage of 20 kmpl if driven gently.

Powering the Honda Civic BS6 diesel model is an updated version of the motor that powered the BS4 model. Hence, like before, the car is available with a 1.6-litre i-DTEC turbo-diesel motor that benefits from the company’s Earth Dream Technology that leads to an optimum mix of power and fuel efficiency. The update to BSVI compliance hasn’t led to any sort of drop in the performance numbers. The motor continues to pump out a maximum power of 120 PS at 4,000 rpm and a peak torque of 300 Nm starting from 2,000 rpm. The petrol motor of the latest Honda Civic comes mated to a CVT but the diesel-burner comes paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. There’s no automatic option on offer, just like the there’s no manual option on the petrol version.
