Petrol makes up 52% of the market for second hand cars in Chandigarh, down 8% from last year—indicating a gradual shift in consumer interest. Diesel’s share has grown to 47%, up by 8%, as buyers seek fuel-efficient options for intercity drives between Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula. Transmission trends in Chandigarh's used car market

Manual transmission continues to dominate the second hand car market in Chandigarh, accounting for 92% of all listings—up by 2% year-on-year. This shows that most buyers still prefer greater control and affordability, especially for driving across sectors and local routes. Automatics, while still a small share at 8%, have seen a slight decline, suggesting that although convenience is appreciated, it’s yet to become a mainstream choice among buyers of old cars in Chandigarh.

Body type trends in Chandigarh's used car market

Hatchbacks continue to lead the second hand car market in Chandigarh, with a 51% share, although they’ve dipped by 5% year-on-year. Their compact size and affordability still make them ideal for city driving across sectors and tight parking spaces. Sedans have risen to 30%, up by 4%, reflecting renewed interest among families and professionals seeking added comfort for daily commutes and intercity travel. SUVs also show a modest gain at 20% (+2%), signalling growing interest in higher ground clearance and road presence for weekend drives to nearby hill stations like Kasauli or Shimla.
