If you are interested in driving in the country, you are required to hold a valid driving licence. However, before you can acquire a driving licence, you must first apply for a learners licence. You can only apply for a driving licence while the learners licence is valid. If the validity date for the learners licence is close to expiring, you can renew your learners licence. The process for renewing your learner’s licence offline in India is relatively simple and can be done by anyone who is of legal age. In order to renew your learner’s licence in India, you will have to go through a certain procedure that has been put forward by the Transport Department of each state. Usually, the process involves the filling up of Form No. 2. The form requires information such as the type of vehicle, name of applicant, address, DOB, education qualification, and other such information. Applicants who wish to renew their learner’s licence are required to pay the fees of Rs. 200. Finally, along with the renewal form, applicants must attach documents such as Aadhaar Card, Passport, Ration Card, PAN Card, Birth Certificate, Form 1 and Form 1A, and Passport Photographs.

In India, a learner’s licence is valid for a period of up to 6 months. During this time, learner’s licence holders can apply for a permanent driving licence. The Motor Vehicles Act of 1988 made it mandatory for anyone who wishes to drive a vehicle in the country to hold a valid permanent driving licence. You are also required to make the fee payment at any of the available counters at the RTO. Once the forms are filled and the documents are attached, you can wait for the RTO to issue the renewed licence.

The learner’s licence renewal form is also known as Form No. 2 or Form 2. It is available online and can be found on Google or on the Parivahan website listed above. Form 2 is a vital document that requires information of the applicant to be listed correctly. Some of the information requested on the form include choosing the type of vehicle, name of applicant, father’s name, Aadhaar Card number, date of birth, educational qualification, mobile number, email address, and learner’s licence information.
Once the form is correctly filled in, you must attach the required documents such as PAN card, birth certificate, passport, ration card, voter ID, and other documentation. After submission, the form and documents will be verified by the RTO. If everything is in order, the RTO will issue the renewed learner’s licence in about 4-7 days after submission.

A learner’s licence in India is valid for up to 6 months and the holder is required to apply for a permanent driving licence within those 6 months. Once those 6 months are over, the holder can either choose to reapply for a new learner’s licence or renew their licence. While applying for a new learner’s licence will require the applicant to redo the entire process including appearing and giving the test, renewing the learner’s licence will not require a retest.
