Discontinued cars in India are an indicator of the pace at which the Indian car market is changing. Each year, a number of models are shelved as manufacturers respond to evolving regulations, emerging technologies and evolving customer tastes. Stricter BS6 Phase 2 (RDE) emission norms, increasing safety expectations and a falling demand for some segments, such as entry-level hatchbacks and premium sedans, have made it costly to keep older models in production. Things change very fast, as many of the once iconic models, such as the Ford Endeavour, the Volkswagen Polo, and the Renault Duster, have been phased out.
