French automobile manufacturer Renault has been exceeding expectations ever since they arrived in the country back in 2005. Since then, the company has introduced a number of performance-based cars that are relatively affordable and deliver on what is promised. Some of the biggest-selling models include the Duster and the Kwid. Renault sells cars that not only perform on the tough Indian roads, but does so with a durability that very few manufacturers can imitate. As we move forward though and the competition gets stiffer, can Renault maintain their dominance in the Indian market? Here are the upcoming Renault cars that are expected to be launched in the coming months in 2020 and 2021.
|Renault Duster Turbo||Rs. 13.0 Lakh|
|Renault Kiger (HBC)||Rs. 9.00 Lakh|
|Renault Arkana||Rs. 10.0 Lakh|
|Renault Zoe||Rs. 8.00 Lakh|
|Renault K-ZE||Rs. 10.0 Lakh|
|Expected Launch||15 August, 2020|
|Transmission||6-Speed Manual, CVT|
As mentioned at the start of this piece, the Duster has been one of the biggest selling cars from Renault as well as one of the most 2nd hand cars in the country. Now, the company is about to introduce the Duster Turbo which will go up against some of the major C-segment SUVs in the market already, including the Nissan Kicks, the Hyundai Creta, and the Kia Seltos. Powering the new Duster Turbo will be a BSVI-compliant 1.3L Turbo-petrol engine that is capable of generating 156Ps of power and 254Nm of torque. The engine will either be mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox or a CVT automatic transmission. According to some reports, the Duster Turbo will offer a mileage of 16 Kmpl which is considered similar to the competition around it. In terms of looks, Renault has not verified anything about the Duster Turbo but with leaks floating around, we can expect a few changes to the body as well as the interior. The previous Duster had a lot of people preparing their RC transfer papers and we can see the same happening when the Duster Turbo is officially launched.
|Expected Launch||15 September, 2020|
Initially showcased at the Auto Expo 2020, the Kiger (HBC) is a sub-4 meter SUV that could immediately win over the hearts of interested buyers in India. The modern looking SUV will come with some of the latest features including a large 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system that will come with Google Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Right now, we don’t know a lot about the Kiger but we do know that the car will come with a lot of what is found in the Triber. Even the engine in the Kiger will be the Turbocharged version of what is found on the Triber which is a BSVI-compliant, 3-cylinder, 1.0L Turbo-petrol engine and will be paired with an automatic transmission. Unfortunately, the Kiger will not come with a diesel engine option.
|Expected Launch||5 October, 2020|
|Engine||1.3L Turbocharged Petrol|
Renault introduced the Arkana crossover in Russia back in 2019 and has finally announced that the car will make it to India some time later in 2020. The Arkana is designed on the B0 platform that is seen on the Duster and Captur which are already in India. Some of the features found inside the Arkana are an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Google Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, automatic cruise control, 360 degree parking cameras, LED headlamps, and remote engine start. Under the hood, the Arkana will house a BSVI-compliant 1.3L Turbocharged petrol engine that is expected to be mated to a CVT automatic transmission. As of now, the India-bound Renault Arkana is shrouded in mystery, but we can expect a lot of similarities to the Russian variant.
|Expected Launch||15 February, 2021|
Electric Vehicles or EVs are quickly becoming popular all across the world and Renault is getting into the competition as well with the introduction of the Zoe. It was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo but is only now making its way into the country. Powering the Zoe EV will be an electric motor that is backed up by a 52KWh Lithium-Ion battery. The battery will offer a range between 380-400 kms when fully charged which is quite impressive when compared to the available EVs in the market today. The electric motor is expected to produce 134Ps of power and 245Nm of torque which is more than what is required for regular everyday travel. Charging time for the Zoe EV is expected to be 9-10 hours from 0-100 percent when using the regular 7.4kW charger that comes with the vehicle. However, if the 50kW DC fast charger is used, the battery can be charged from 0-80 percent in just 1 hour and 10 minutes. Some of the features found on the Zoe will include a 9.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and CapPlay connectivity, automatic climate control, parking sensors, and cruise control. The car will also come with a number of safety features that include ABS with EBD, four airbags, and ISOFIX child mount seats. Once the Zoe EV is launched, people can use a used car evaluation tool to get the best deal on the impressive vehicle.
|Expected Launch||31 March, 2022|
Another highly anticipated electric vehicle from Renault is the K-ZE or Kwid EV which will be ready for launch some time in 2022. It has already been launched in China under the name City-KZE. Under the hood, the K-ZE will be powered by a 26.8kWh Lithium-Ion battery that is expected to produce 44Ps of power and 125Nm of torque. When using a 6.6kW AC charger, the K-ZE will go from 0-100 percent in about 4 hours but if charged with the DC fast charger, the K-ZE will go from 30-80 percent in just 30 minutes. Inside the K-ZE, we can expect to find an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, online music connectivity, 4G WiFi connectivity, and a high-quality air quality sensor.
