We probably don’t have the best road infrastructure, but we still do have some really kickass cars for sale. All these cars are imported as completely built units (CBU) straight from their overseas assembly plants. So apart from being expensive by default, the exorbitant import duties and taxes almost double their price in India. But even then, we have a very limited audience of well-off enthusiasts who invest in these monstrous machines to fuel their passion. What’s more heart-warming is that despite the limited audience for these vehicles in our country, all their manufacturers still show interest in our market. So without any further delay, here are the 10 most expensive cars in India that you can get your hands on.
10 Most Expensive Cars in India:
Porsche 911 GT2RS: Rs.3.88 Crores
The first car on our list of most expensive cars in India comes from the stable of the legendary German manufacturer, Porsche. The 911 GT2RS is the fastest road ready 911 to ever exist on the planet so far. In fact, it was launched in India just one day before we started writing this article. As evident as it seems, this car is all about blistering performance. It’s powered by a 3.8 litre Porsche signature Flat-6 engine that puts out an insane 700 bhp of power and 750 Nm of torque. They have cleverly used carbon fibre, magnesium and titanium all around the car bringing its weight down to just 1470 kg! Both factors combined, propel the car from 0-100 in a mere 2.8 seconds with a top speed of 340 kmph.
Aston Martin DB11: Rs.4.05 Crores
The Aston Martin DB11 is in many ways the production successor of the DB10, a.k.a the Bond-mobile from the movie Spectre. The DB11 is quite a landmark car for the Brit car maker as it is the first car to be launched after their tie-up with Daimler AG. The DB11 comes in several variants overseas but we only get the 5.2 litre V12 turbocharged model. This model comes with more “special-ness” as it is the first turbocharged car to roll out from their factory. The DB11 puts out a mammoth 600 bhp of power and 700 Nm of torque. The most unique aspect of the DB11 is it’s extravagantly well-planned aerodynamics. Aston-Martin has literally managed to route the air through the rear bodywork and out of the boot lid, thus imparting the car with unparalleled levels of downforce and stability.
For the next car on our list of most expensive cars in India, let’s step away from performance for a while and focus a bit on luxury.
Rolls Royce Ghost: Rs.4.68 Crores
Ironically enough, this is the cheapest Rolls-Royce you can buy in India. The name “Ghost” was given to this car as a tribute to their 1906 Silver Ghost, which was the first car they made. The Ghost was launched to compete with luxury cars that are positioned below their flagship Phantom. The Ghost incorporates a more modern touch in the interiors compared to the Phantom. But make no mistake; the luxury quotient is still extravagantly high here. It even got a generous facelift in 2014 which pretty much just made it more desirable. The Ghost sure is luxurious but don’t mistake it for a slouch. Under the hood, it packs a massive 6.6-litre twin turbo V12, punching out 570 bhp of power and 780 Nm of torque. It can do a 0-100 sprint in 4.8 seconds, which is really commendable for a car of its proportions.
Lamborghini Aventador S: Rs.5.01 Crores
Lamborghini is perhaps the most unmistakable supercar manufacturer on the planet. And for the past 7 years, their most unmistakable product has been the Aventador. The Aventador was launched to replace the legendary Murcielago, which are some really big shoes to fill. But it actually did much better than its predecessor. The Aventador S is the latest and most improvised version of the car. The design lines on the Aventador are drop dead gorgeous!
I mean seriously even if you are an engineer you will still spend a long time appreciating its beauty before reaching the functionality aspect. As you would expect, this car is a fire-breather in terms of performance. Its naturally aspirated 6.5 litre V12 gives out 740 bhp of power and 690 Nm of torque and a 0-100 time of a mere 2.9 seconds. Get into the Aventador and you will notice all the controls and buttons are taken straight off a fighter Jet which I guess will make its blistering performance seem as legit as possible.
Rolls Royce Wraith: Rs.5.02 Crores
The next car on our list of the most expensive cars in India is again a Rolls-Royce. Like the Ghost, the Wraith is also a tribute to their classic 1938 Wraith. In the company’s portfolio, the Wraith sits between the Ghost and their more premium Dawn. The Wraith is pretty much a sportier version of the Ghost. Unlike the 4-door setup on the Ghost, the Wraith only gets 2 doors. The rear seats are present but the comfort factor is a tad compromised on the Wraith compared to the Ghost. It does, however, make up for that attribute with much better performance. Under the hood, the engine is the same 6.6 litre V12 similar to the Ghost but it puts more power and torque at 623 Bhp and 800 Nm respectively. The car is also mated to an 8-speed ZF transmission, further enhancing the performance.
Ferrari 812 Superfast: Rs.5.2 Crores
Ferrari’s initial Indian venture was a tad trouble-ridden but they came back with a bang in 2015 with a much more aggressive approach. Their latest launch for the Indian market was the 812 Superfast. The 812 Superfast is the successor to the F12 Berlinetta and adopts a similar body construction style. Like the name suggests, the 812 is indeed super fast! The 6.5 litre V12 used in it is the world’s most powerful naturally aspirated engine as of July 2018 (Take that Lamborghini!). The 812 Superfast’s power plant belts out a stonking 789 bhp of power and 718 Nm of torque. It comes in only one transmission option which is a dual-clutch 7-speed F1-derived AMT gearbox. 0-100 comes up in just 2.9 seconds and the top speed is around 342 kmph. This is one of the rare cases where the phrase “living up to your name” applies rather literally.
Aston Martin Vanquish: Rs.5.22 Crores
The next car on our list of most expensive cars in India is again an Aston Martin. You may remember this car from another James Bond Title, Die Another Day. At that time, the Vanquish was just a prototype. Since then, it has seen 2 generations of production models. The current generation blends the perfect balance between luxury and performance. Despite looking like a very purpose-built supercar from the outside, the Vanquish is every bit luxurious and inviting on the inside. But on the performance front, it is very much supercar oriented. Under the hood lies a 5.9 litre naturally aspirated V12 delivering 595 bhp of power and 630 Nm of torque. You’ve probably seen carbon fibre bits being used on fast cars but on the Vanquish, every external panel on the car is made of pure aerospace standard carbon fibre!
Bentley Mulsanne: Rs.5.5 Crores
The next car on our list of most expensive cars in India is also from a fabled Brit marquee but it’s not Rolls Royce this time. The Bentley Mulsanne gets its name from the famous Mulsanne corner of the Le Mans circuit. The Mulsanne was Bentley’s first flagship car to be designed independently by Bentley without sharing parts with parallel Rolls-Royce cars. The Mulsanne is a beautiful car from the outside and the inside. The interiors comprise of luxurious handcrafted wooden panels and hand stitched Alcantara and Porpoise leather. It has a very imposing exterior stance courtesy the broad front section and the signature circular quad headlamp structure. On the performance front, we are looking at a 6.7 litre Twin Turbo V8. It produces a generous 537 bhp of power but it’s the unreal 1100 Nm of torque that you need to drop your jaw for.
Rolls Royce Dawn: Rs. 7.06 Crores
The Dawn is a very special model from the house Rolls-Royce. Special, because it only comes in one convertible drop head variant. The Dawn was designed from scratch and shares less than 20% parts with its siblings. Unlike the Ghost and the Wraith which are biased towards performance, the Dawn is all about luxury. The moment you step into the cabin, you will immediately realize that fact. The expansive wooden panels and the supple exquisite leather over the seats and panels simply ooze luxury. The Rolls Royce Dawn is powered by a 6.6 litre Twin Turbo V12 producing a modest 563 bhp of power and a slightly lunatic 820 Nm of torque. Thanks to all that torque, this massive convertible does the 0-100 run in a very respectable 4.9 seconds.
Rolls Royce Phantom VIII: Rs.9.5 Crores
The last car on our list of the most expensive cars in India is the costliest offering in the country. But the amount of luxury and heritage this car oozes is pretty much incomparable to anything the automobile world has seen. The Rolls Royce Phantom is the benchmark for luxury cars all the way since its 1925 launch. The latest 8th generation of the Phantom gives a brand new definition to modern luxury. Rolls Royce is finally moving away from the classic elements and focussing on modern touches. This can be seen in places like the retro-looking instrument cluster which shows within a full LCD panel. “Move with times but retain your identity” done with perfection.
The Phantom is stated to be one of the quietest cars and most comfortable cars on the planet. Under the hood lies a 6.75 twin-turbo V12 which is the largest engine they have ever made. It puts out 563 bhp of power and 900 Nm of torque, extremely impressive for a car of its stature. Another thing to notice is the amount of technology they have incorporated into the car’s suspension and steering. The four-wheel steering, electronically controlled sight operated suspension, active anti-roll bars, all work in tandem to reduce jerks, vibrations, and noise from entering the cabin. Also on a side note, 9.5 Crores is just for the base version 😀
