Outline

The Hyundai Creta has been India’s best-selling mid-size SUV for years and that position does not seem under serious threat for now. But the segment is getting more competitive and Hyundai is already preparing its next big step.

The third-generation Creta, expected around 2027, is currently under development. Test mules have been spotted more often on public roads, which points to steady progress in the project.

Recent spy shots from the United States, published in late April 2026, give the clearest idea yet of the direction. The new model is expected to be larger, with a more modern design, a new platform, and a more premium cabin. Here is a full breakdown based on spy shots and multiple reports over the past few months.

2027 Hyundai Creta Design — Boxy is back

The most noticeable change in the 2027 Hyundai Creta test mule is the silhouette. The current model has softer curves, but the new one looks more upright with squared proportions and a more SUV-like stance.

Even under heavy camouflage, some details are clear. The front gets rectangular headlamps and a more upright bonnet. The side profile looks more boxy. The wheels also appear larger, with 18-inch units seen on mid-spec test mules compared to 17-inch wheels on the current model. The ORVMs are dual-tone with integrated indicators, and a shark fin antenna is visible on the roof.

Earlier spy shots also suggested pixel-style LED lighting elements, similar to what is seen on models like the Hyundai Ioniq 5. A roof spoiler and shorter overhangs at the front and rear have also been noted. The design seems inspired by the Hyundai Crater Concept shown in late 2025, which follows a more geometric design language. A new grille and redesigned bumpers are also expected, but details are still hidden under camouflage.

Next-gen Hyundai Creta platform — Biggest change under the skin

One of the biggest upgrades on the next-gen Hyundai Creta is the platform. The current model uses the K2 platform, while the 2027 version is expected to move to the newer K3 platform. This is the same architecture used on models like the second-generation Kia Seltos.

This shift will also change the size of the SUV. The new Creta is expected to grow to around 4,500 mm in length, compared to 4,330 mm today. That is an increase of about 170 mm, which should bring a longer wheelbase and more interior space.

The K3 platform also brings better structural strength, lower NVH levels, and improved refinement. It is also ready for hybrid and electrified powertrains in the future. In practical terms, the added length should improve rear seat space and may also increase boot capacity.

2027 Hyundai Creta features

3rd-gen Hyundai Creta Interior spy shots from early 2026 have already revealed a few details. Black leatherette upholstery is visible along with a redesigned dashboard layout. A “Gravity Button” was also spotted, similar to the one in the Hyundai Ioniq 5, which enables a “Boss Mode” function to recline the front passenger seat for rear seat comfort.

Based on multiple spy shots, the new interior is expected to get a new steering wheel with Hyundai’s four dot logo, larger infotainment and digital cluster screens in a dual screen or curved setup, and a touch based HVAC panel. Rear seat comfort may improve with adjustable headrests for all three passengers. Other expected updates include improved connected car tech and a more advanced ADAS suite than the current Level 2 system. Some reports also suggest Android Automotive OS support, but that is not confirmed yet for India.

2027 Hyundai Creta engine options — Familiar lineup, with a hybrid on the horizon

At launch, the Hyundai Creta 2027 is expected to continue with the same engine options as the current model. This includes the 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol with 115PS, paired with a 6 speed manual or iVT. The 1.5L turbo petrol with 160PS, paired with a 7 speed DCT. And the 1.5L diesel with 116PS, paired with a 6 speed manual or automatic.

These engines are already well accepted in the market, so no major change is expected at launch. Some reports suggest minor improvements in refinement and efficiency due to the new platform, but no confirmed figures are available yet.

The bigger development is a strong hybrid version under work. It is expected to use an electrified version of the 1.5L petrol engine and will compete with models like the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Maruti Grand Vitara. The hybrid is not expected at launch and may arrive later in the product cycle.

New-gen Hyundai Creta price & rivals

2026 Hyundai Creta

The current Hyundai Creta is priced between Rs 10.72 lakh and Rs 20.19 lakh ex showroom. With the next generation expected to get a new platform, bigger size and more features, a small price increase is likely. Early estimates suggest a starting price of around Rs 11 lakh, while top variants could go up to Rs 21.50 lakh or slightly higher depending on features and hybrid version.

When launched, it will compete in a crowded segment with models like the Kia Seltos, Tata Sierra, Renault Duster, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Maruti Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, and Volkswagen Taigun.

Third-gen Hyundai Creta India launch

Hyundai Creta has not received any official reveal or launch announcement yet. Based on frequent spy shots, most reports expect a reveal in the second half of 2026. India launch is likely in early 2027. Recent test mules seen in the US in April 2026 suggest development is in an advanced stage. If the timeline holds, Hyundai could unveil it in late 2026, with bookings and deliveries starting in 2027.
