India-spec Maruti e Vitara to be called e Escudo? — Spy shots surfaced

As we are getting closer to the launch of the e Vitara, a new spy shot has revealed a new detail about Maruti’s first electric SUV. Based on the new spy shot, it is understood that the e Vitara could be renamed to e Escudo for the Indian market. What’s the name for Maruti’s first EV?

The name Escudo is not new for the Japanese carmaker. The Suzuki Vitara is called the Escudo in Japan and the name Escudo is also trademarked for the Indian market. Up until now, the new Escudo name was likely to be reserved for Maruti’s upcoming family SUV, slotting between the Brezza and Grand Vitara. However, a new leak revealing an e Vitara test car with the “e Escudo” badging at the back brings a new turn to the story. While the Suzuki electric SUV is called the e Vitara in the global markets, it could be renamed to e Escudo for the Indian market, falling in line with the upcoming Escudo SUV that’s going to be a petrol/hybrid family SUV.

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara/ e Escudo launch date

Maruti Suzuki recently rolled out a Block Your Date invite to the media, confirming a launch event for the month of September. While the carmaker has not revealed the model that’s set to be launched on September 3, 2025, we assumed it to be the e Vitara. However, new media reports now claim that Maruti will launch the Escudo SUV on September 3, 2025. Hence, we would reserve our speculations until the carmaker itself confirms its launch plans for both the e Vitara and Escudo SUVs.

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara/e Escudo powertrain specifications

While the global-spec Suzuki e Vitara will be made available in a choice of three powertrain options, the India-spec model gets just two, the AWD variant not being offered in the country as of now. Detailed specifications are listed in the table below.
