Kia India has launched the factory-fitted CNG version of the Carens Clavis in India at a starting price of Rs 12,38,800, ex-showroom. This gives the three-row MPV a manufacturer-backed CNG option for the first time.
The launch comes alongside the standard Carens CNG as Kia expands its powertrain options in India. The Carens Clavis CNG is available in two variants, giving buyers more choice in terms of features and price.

The Carens Clavis CNG is available in two variants: HTE and HTE (O). The HTE CNG-MT is priced at Rs 12.39 lakh, while the HTE (O) CNG-MT costs Rs 13.35 lakh, ex-showroom.

Both CNG variants carry a Rs 1 lakh premium over their petrol-MT counterparts. The Carens Clavis also gives buyers more choice than the standard Carens CNG, which is currently available in only one trim.
Kia Carens Clavis CNG engine and performance
The Carens Clavis CNG uses the same Smartstream G1.5 engine as the standard Carens CNG. In CNG mode, it produces 96 PS and 123 Nm of torque and is paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
The engine has been specifically tuned for CNG use, with the focus on efficiency and everyday usability. Kia has not yet shared an official fuel-efficiency figure for the Carens Clavis CNG. The CNG system uses a 60-litre tank and works with the existing petrol fuel system, allowing the vehicle to run on either CNG or petrol.
Kia Carens Clavis CNG — Retaining practicality despite the CNG tank
Despite the addition of the CNG tank, the Carens Clavis continues to get a spare wheel. This is useful for buyers who regularly travel long distances and want the added security of a spare tyre.
Kia has also made changes to the third-row seat-back frame. The updated design provides a better recline angle for third-row passengers, helping maintain comfort despite the changes required to accommodate the CNG system.
Kia Carens Clavis CNG features and mechanical updates
The Carens Clavis CNG gets several CNG-specific features, including a dedicated CNG fuel change switch and Distance to Empty (DTE) information for CNG. It also gets a 4.2-inch colour TFT multi-information display with CNG DTE information. The MPV rides on 16-inch wheels and gets larger 16-inch front disc brakes.
Kia has also made changes to the suspension and engine calibration to account for the additional weight of the CNG system and its components.

The Carens Clavis CNG and standard Carens CNG share the same basic mechanical setup. Both use the 96 PS Smartstream G1.5 engine, 6-speed manual gearbox and 60-litre CNG tank. The main difference is the variant availability. The Carens Clavis CNG is offered in two trims, HTE and HTE (O), while the standard Carens CNG is currently available only in the Premium (O) trim. The Clavis also gets its own design and feature package, which is different from the standard Carens.
