Outline

Kia India has opened pre-bookings for the Carens CNG and Carens Clavis CNG. These are Kia's first models in India to get factory-fitted CNG technology. Until now, the older Carens was available with CNG only through dealer-fitted kits. With the new factory-fitted setup, the CNG system is installed during production.

Kia Carens CNG and Carens Clavis CNG — Engine output

Both models use a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with a 6-speed manual gearbox. In CNG mode, it will produce around 96 PS and 123 Nm. This is 21 PS and 22 Nm less than the petrol version of the same engine. Both cars will get a 60-litre CNG tank fitted at the factory. Kia has also made changes to the engine tuning and suspension to work with the CNG system and its added weight.

The Carens CNG and Carens Clavis CNG get 16-inch wheels and 16-inch disc brakes. Both models also get a CNG fuel change switch, which allows the driver to switch between CNG and petrol.

A 4.2-inch colour TFT instrument display shows CNG-specific distance-to-empty information. This helps the driver keep track of the remaining CNG range. Kia has also changed the third-row seat-back frame on both models. This improves the recline angle and gives rear passengers a more comfortable seating position.

Kia will also offer CNG versions for commercial and fleet buyers. The Carens CNG gets the M-Drive G1.5 6MT variant for B2B and commercial use, while the Carens Clavis CNG gets the HTM G1.5 6MT variant.

When will Kia Carens CNG and Carens Clavis CNG prices be announced?
