Outline

Mahindra will debut a CNG version of the XUV 3XO on October 15, 2026. The company has released a teaser, and the launch date has been reported by Autocar India and Rushlane. Prices could be announced in the weeks that follow.

The new variant will be the fourth powertrain option after petrol, diesel and electric options. The CNG version will also be the first factory-fitted CNG car in Mahindra's current passenger vehicle range. Mahindra has not shared specifications yet, so a lot of the details below are expectations.

Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG engine and power

Complete Guide on Buying a Mahindra XUV 3XO

The Mahindra XUV 3XO is currently available with two 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engines. The MPFI version produces 111PS, while the direct-injection (DI) unit delivers 131PS. The electric version uses a 39.4 kWh battery pack and produces 150PS and 310Nm of torque.

The upcoming CNG version is expected to use the MPFI engine, as its fuel-injection setup is simpler and cheaper to adapt for CNG than the direct-injection unit. Mahindra has not revealed the CNG version's power and torque figures yet, but a slight drop in output compared with petrol can be expected.

XUV 3XO boot space and CNG tank layout

The tank layout is the biggest question. The XUV 3XO has a 295-litre boot, which is already the smallest in its segment. A conventional CNG cylinder would take up more of this space. Mahindra could use a dual-cylinder layout, which was popularised by Tata. It could also fit the tank under the boot floor. Either option may need some re-engineering. It is also unclear whether the spare wheel will be offered. None of this is confirmed.

Will the design or features change for the CNG variant?

The upcoming Mahindra 3XO CNG version is not expected to change much in terms of design or interior. The XUV 3XO is already well equipped for its segment. It offers a dual-screen setup, wireless charger, JBL speakers, panoramic sunroof, and Level 2 ADAS. All of this is likely to stay the same.

The CNG changes will be minimal. You can expect the tank setup, CNG badging and a small update in the infotainment system to show fuel levels. The gearbox will most likely be a 6-speed manual, as seen in most factory-fitted CNG cars. An automatic option is unlikely at launch.

Rivals and expected price

Only two compact SUVs currently offer a factory CNG option. These are the Tata Nexon and the Maruti Brezza. The Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG will become the third, and it will compete directly with both. Mahindra has not announced a price. Autocar India expects a premium of about Rs 1 lakh over the equivalent petrol variant. The XUV 3XO range currently starts from Rs 7.79 lakh (ex-showroom).
