Maruti Celerio safety rating in Global NCAP — Adult occupant protection

| Adult Occupant Protection | 2 Aibags | 6 Airbags |
|---|---|---|
| Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier | 8.050 p | 8.050 p |
| Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test (Car) | 9.993 p | 9.993 p |
| Side Pole Impact Test (Pole) | - | OK |
| Total | 18.04 / 34.00 | 18.04 / 34.00 |
In the Global NCAP crash test, the 2-airbag Maruti Celerio scored 18.04 out of 34 and received a 2-star adult occupant rating. The 6-airbag version improved to 3 stars due to better side impact protection.
Frontal protection was adequate to good for head and neck, but the driver’s chest showed weak protection and knee protection was marginal. Tibia protection ranged from adequate to good, while the footwell and bodyshell were rated unstable. Side impact tests showed marginal head and chest protection, adequate abdomen protection, and good pelvis protection. ESC and front seat belt reminders are standard and meet Global NCAP norms.

The side pole test was skipped for the 2-airbag version due to the lack of side head airbags. In the 6-airbag model, head and pelvis protection was good, but chest and abdomen protection remained marginal, which explains why both versions have different ratings.

According to the report, the 2-airbag Maruti Celerio scored 1 star for child occupant protection, while the 6-airbag version scored 2 stars. In frontal impact, the 3-year-old child seat was forward-facing using an adult seatbelt. Head exposure occurred, and neck and chest protection were poor. The 18-month-old seat was rearward-facing and also showed head exposure and weak chest protection.
Furthermore, the report notes that in side impact tests, the 18-month-old seat offered full protection, but the 3-year-old seat failed to contain the head. The car does not provide three-point seatbelts in all positions.

The report also states that the front passenger seat has a warning for rearward-facing child seats, but the airbag cannot be switched off. CRS installation failed in the rear centre seat of the 2-airbag version. In the 6-airbag version, installation passed for all rear seats except the front passenger and rear centre positions.
