Maruti Victoris spare wheel accessory launched as optional add-on — Priced from Rs 2,350

Maruti Suzuki has introduced a spare wheel accessory for the Victoris after the SUV became the brand's first model to be sold without a spare wheel as standard. Instead, every Victoris variant, including Petrol, CNG and Strong Hybrid, comes with a puncture repair kit. Following feedback from buyers, Maruti has now made a spare wheel available through its genuine accessories catalogue as an optional purchase.

Maruti Suzuki is now offering the spare wheel assembly as a genuine accessory for all Victoris powertrain options. This means owners can choose to add a spare wheel after purchase. The wheel itself is priced at Rs 2,350 and costs the same across all variants. However, the mounting brackets and other installation parts are different for Petrol, CNG and Strong Hybrid models, so the overall cost varies depending on the powertrain.

Installation differs by powertrain

Installation requirements vary across the lineup. The Strong Hybrid needs the most additional parts because of its battery packaging, while the CNG version also requires extra components. Only the Petrol variants can accommodate the spare wheel without modifying the luggage board. The CNG and Strong Hybrid versions require trimming of the luggage board during installation. The listed price covers only the wheel and mounting hardware. Buyers will need to purchase the tyre separately.

Maruti's decision to remove the spare wheel complies with existing regulations, which allow manufacturers to skip a spare if the vehicle is equipped with tubeless tyres, a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and a puncture repair kit. The Victoris meets all three requirements.

How puncture repair kits compare

A puncture repair kit can be more convenient than changing a wheel on the roadside. It allows drivers to seal small punctures using a compressor and sealant without lifting the vehicle or replacing the wheel.

However, repair kits have their limits. The sealant is generally effective only for small punctures, works for around 200km, and comes with a recommended speed limit of 80km/h. It also cannot repair sidewall damage or larger cuts, where a spare wheel is still the only practical solution.
