- 2New Pajero switches from unibody construction to a body-on-frame chassis
- 3A diesel hybrid setup is expected, with PHEV and EV versions possible later
Mitsubishi Pajero's global debut date has been scheduled for 2 September 2026. This marks the revival of the iconic nameplate that has been missing from most markets for close to two decades. The new Pajero will be built on a body-on-frame chassis, unlike the outgoing generation which used a unibody structure.
Commercial rollout is expected to begin in early 2027 across global markets. But a full list of countries is still pending. Ahead of the reveal, the brand has released a series of teasers that hint at both the mechanical direction and some of the cabin tech the new Pajero will bring.
Mitsubishi Pajero chassis and off-road hardware

The new Pajero will move to a ladder-frame chassis based on the same platform used by the Triton pickup. The SUV is also expected to use Mitsubishi's S-AWC (Super All-Wheel Control) system, which is also available on the Triton. It manages power between the front and rear axles and uses brake control to improve traction and stability on different surfaces.
The Pajero is also expected to feature the Super Select 4WD-II system. It allows the driver to switch between two-wheel drive, full-time four-wheel drive and low-range modes. Mitsubishi could also introduce a hardcore off-road variant to rival the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. It could also offer drive modes such as Eco, Normal, Gravel, Sand, Snow, Mud and Rock for different terrain conditions.
Mitsubishi Pajero design and interior teased
Mitsubishi's teasers highlight the Pajero's Dakar Rally heritage, with sand-themed images spelling out "PAJERO". They also show two slightly different front-end designs, suggesting some styling changes between markets.

The new Pajero is expected to get vertically stacked pixel-style lights and a boxy SUV design, staying close to the traditional Pajero shape. Inside, it gets a 14.3-inch display with a "3-gauge meter" layout inspired by older Pajero models.
Mitsubishi Pajero powertrain — Diesel hybrid expected
Mitsubishi has not revealed the new Pajero's engine or full specifications yet. These details are expected to be announced at its global debut. Mitsubishi has been working on diesel-hybrid technology, which is expected to be offered with the new Pajero. A plug-in hybrid and fully electric version could also be introduced later, depending on market demand.
Mitsubishi Pajero India and global launch

The new Pajero is expected to launch in Asian markets in early 2027. Mitsubishi has not confirmed an India launch yet. In the US, the Pajero is expected to arrive around 2030 and will be sold as the Montero.
Mitsubishi is also reportedly planning smaller hybrid SUVs under the Pajero family between 2028 and 2030. More details on the new Pajero, including its specifications and market plans, will be revealed on 2 September.
