Outline

There are a good number of options if you’re looking for an electric car in the Indian market today; not so many if you have a budget constraint of Rs 10 lakh. Nonetheless, there are three cars that do fall in this bracket, and all of them are quite good products in their own right. Here are the most affordable electric cars in India under Rs 10 lakh.

Tata Tiago EVRs 7.99 lakh to Rs 11.14 lakh

Price: Rs 7.49 lakh to Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)

MG Comet is the most affordable electric car in India, though it isn’t really meant to be looked at as an ‘affordable’ option, rather as a secondary car strictly for city use. If you opt for MG’s BaaS (Battery as a Service) scheme, the starting price further comes down to Rs 4.99 lakh (+ battery rental @ Rs 3.1/km).

Tata’s cheapest electric car in India, the Tiago EV, comes at a starting price of Rs 7.99 lakh. It is often looked at as a competitor to the Comet EV. The Tiago EV gets two options for the battery pack — 19.2kWh and 24kWh. Notably, it is not a BEV, and is based on the ICE Tata Tiago.

The Tiago EV’s stablemate — Tata Punch EV — is the last car in our list, with a starting ex-showroom price that’s just shy of Rs 10 lakh. Just like the Tiago, the Punch EV also gets two battery pack options — 25kWh and 35kWh — but is built on Tata’s acti.ev platform that has specifically been designed for electric vehicles.
