- 2Available across 5 variants: Pure, Pure S, Creative, Creative S, and Accomplished S
- 3Accomplished S is priced at Rs 10,76,990 (ex-showroom)
CNG cars are popular in India because of their lower running costs and easy fuel availability. But most CNG cars only come with a manual gearbox, which can feel tiring in city traffic. Tata has now launched the Tata Altroz iCNG AMT in India, with prices starting at Rs 8.69 lakh. The hatchback is available in five variants.
It is the first premium hatchback in India to offer a CNG powertrain with an automatic gearbox. Tata says the Altroz iCNG AMT has been tuned for smoother gear shifts and seamless switching between petrol and CNG modes. A single ECU controls both the AMT gearbox and the fuel-switching system. The hatchback also gets a segment-first Direct Start in CNG mode. Unlike most CNG cars that start on petrol first, the Altroz iCNG AMT can start directly in CNG mode.
2026 Tata Altroz CNG AMT design & features

The Tata Altroz iCNG AMT carries the same design as the updated Altroz range. It gets flush door handles, connected LED tail lamps, and LED headlamps with DRLs. There are no major visual differences between the iCNG AMT and other Altroz variants.
Inside, the hatchback gets a premium-looking cabin with soft-touch materials, ambient lighting, and lounge-style rear seats. It also comes with Tata’s 26.03 cm twin digital screen setup by HARMAN, which supports wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, navigation, and a digital driver display.
Tata Altroz CNG AMT safety

The Altroz was the first hatchback in India to receive a 5-star Global NCAP safety rating, and it now also holds a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating across petrol, diesel, and CNG versions, including the iCNG AMT.
Standard safety features include 6 airbags, ESP, ISOFIX child seat mounts, and reverse parking sensors. Higher variants also get a 360-degree camera, tyre pressure monitoring system, auto headlamps, and LED fog lamps.
The Altroz is built on Tata’s ALFA platform using ultra-high-strength steel. Tata says the CNG version offers the same structural strength as the petrol and diesel models.
2026 Tata Altroz CNG AMT performance — The twin-cylinder CNG advantage
| Specification | Detail |
|---|---|
| Engine | 1.2L Revotron iCNG |
| Power (CNG mode) | 73.5PS |
| Torque (CNG mode) | 103Nm |
| Transmission | AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) |
| CNG Start Mode | Direct Start in CNG |
| Boot Space (CNG mode) | 210 litres |
| Boot Space (Petrol/Diesel) | 345 litres |
| Safety Rating | 5-Star Bharat NCAP |
| Architecture | ALFA platform |
The Tata Altroz iCNG AMT uses a 1.2-litre Revotron iCNG engine that produces 73.5PS and 103Nm in CNG mode. Power is slightly lower than the petrol version, which is common for CNG cars, but the AMT gearbox makes city driving easier by removing the need to use the clutch in traffic.

The hatchback also uses Tata’s twin-cylinder iCNG setup. Instead of one large CNG cylinder taking up the entire boot, the Altroz uses two smaller cylinders placed under the luggage area. This helps retain 210 litres of boot space in CNG mode, while petrol and diesel versions offer 345 litres.
Tata Altroz CNG AMT price
The Tata Altroz iCNG AMT is available in five variants. Prices start at Rs 8,69,990 for the Pure variant and go up to Rs 10,76,990 for the top-spec Accomplished S.
| Variant (iCNG AMT) | Price (Ex-showroom, Delhi) |
|---|---|
| Pure | Rs 8,69,990 |
| Pure S | Rs 8,99,990 |
| Creative | Rs 9,56,990 |
| Creative S | Rs 9,81,990 |
| Accomplished S | Rs 10,76,990 |
The price gap between the base and top variant is around Rs 2 lakh. The Altroz iCNG AMT rivals the Maruti Suzuki Baleno CNG and the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios CNG. However, neither of them currently offers a CNG automatic option, giving the Altroz a clear advantage in daily city driving.
