Tata offers Battery-as-a-Service across its EV lineup — What you need to know
- 1Under BaaS, the vehicle and battery are financed through separate loan accounts
- 2Battery usage cost ranges from Rs 2.6 per km to Rs 5.9 per km
- 3BaaS is a dual-loan finance product available through multiple financiers
Tata EV has expanded its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) finance option to its entire electric vehicle portfolio. The scheme was initially introduced for the Tiago.ev and Punch.ev and is now available with the Nexon.ev, Curvv EV, Sierra EV and Harrier EV as well. This allows buyers to reduce the upfront cost of buying a Tata EV by financing the battery separately.
How Tata's Battery-as-a-Service scheme works

Under BaaS, the cost of the battery is separated from the vehicle's upfront price and financed through a separate loan. The vehicle and battery have two different loan accounts, with flexible tenure options for each.
The battery EMI depends on factors such as battery size, down payment and loan tenure. It does not include charging, maintenance, repairs or other running costs. Tata EV has also partnered with multiple financiers, giving buyers a choice of lenders. Customers who do not want BaaS can continue to buy the EV outright, including the battery.
Tata EV BaaS prices across the range
The starting BaaS price for each model applies to the entry-level trim. The figures assume daily usage of 60 km, except for the Tiago.ev, where the assumption is 44 km per day. The prices are for personal use and exclude charging costs.
| Model | Battery | Regular price | BaaS vehicle price | Battery cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tiago EV | 19kWh | Rs 6.99 lakh | Rs 4.69 lakh | Rs 2.6/km |
| Punch EV | 30kWh | Rs 9.79 lakh | Rs 6.59 lakh | Rs 2.6/km |
| Nexon EV | 45kWh | Rs 14.34 lakh | Rs 8.99 lakh | Rs 4.4/km |
| Curvv EV | 55kWh | Rs 17.19 lakh | Rs 10.99 lakh | Rs 5/km |
| Sierra EV | 63kWh | Rs 18.79 lakh | Rs 11.99 lakh | Rs 5.5/km |
| Harrier EV | 65kWh | Rs 21.79 lakh | Rs 14.49 lakh | Rs 5.9/km |
The upfront price reduction varies across the range. For example, the Harrier EV 's starting price drops from Rs 21.79 lakh to Rs 14.49 lakh with BaaS, reducing the initial cost by Rs 7.3 lakh. The battery is then charged separately based on usage at Rs 5.9 per km.
What Tata.ev said about the expansion
Commenting about this, Mr. Vivek Srivatsa, Chief Commercial Officer, said: “With the EV acceptance and demand growing many fold in the country, Customers demand choices than ever before, not just in the EVs they buy, but also in how they choose to finance them. As BaaS* becomes an increasingly visible construct in the EV market, we want to ensure that customers evaluating a TATA.ev have complete flexibility to make a fair and transparent comparison. Extending BaaS* across our portfolio gives them precisely that choice. Customers can continue to buy their EV outright, including the battery, or opt for BaaS* and lower their upfront acquisition cost. Ultimately, our endeavour is simple: give customers the freedom to choose the solution that works best for them and make the transition to electric easier.”
What stays the same with BaaS
Choosing BaaS does not change the car itself. Customers get the same features, technology and ownership experience as buyers who purchase the EV with the battery included. The warranty and product features also remain unchanged. BaaS is simply an additional financing option and does not represent a different variant or equipment level.
