The Tata Sierra has officially received its ARAI certified mileage figures and the numbers are now public. The compact SUV comes with three engine options spread across five powertrain combinations. Of all the options, the diesel is the clear winner when it comes to fuel efficiency and the turbo petrol sits at the other end as the thirstiest option in the range. Tata Sierra ARAI mileage — N/A petrol fuel efficiency
The base petrol engine in the Tata Sierra is a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated unit. This engine produces around 115PS of power and 143Nm of peak torque. It is offered with two gearbox choices. a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT automatic.
The Tata Sierra N/A manual variant returns an ARAI-certified mileage of 17.40 kmpl. The DCT automatic comes in slightly lower at 16.90 kmpl. The difference between the two is small and the DCT option makes sense for city driving where the convenience of an automatic outweighs the small efficiency gap.
2026 Tata Sierra turbo petrol mileage — Automatic only
The 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine is the performance-focused option in the Sierra lineup. It puts out approximately 170PS of power and 280Nm of torque which is a significant step up from the NA unit. This engine is paired exclusively with a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox and there is no manual option available.
The new Sierra ARAI mileage for this combination is 15.30 kmpl. That is the lowest figure in the Sierra range but expected given the added power output and the nature of a turbo petrol engine. The torque converter automatic is smooth and well suited to the engine's character.
New Tata Sierra diesel mileage — Best in range fuel efficiency
2026 Sierra 1.5 litre diesel engine delivers the best efficiency numbers. This unit generates around 115PS of power and 260Nm of torque. It is available with two gearbox options - a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic.
The manual diesel returns an ARAI-certified mileage of 21.26 kmpl, which is the highest figure in the entire Sierra lineup. The automatic version comes in at 19.22 kmpl, which is still very respectable for an SUV in this segment.
For buyers who clock high monthly kilometres or frequently drive on highways, the diesel makes a strong financial case. The mileage advantage over the petrol options is substantial. And over time, it offsets the higher purchase cost of a diesel variant.
