Tata Sierra vs Kia Seltos safety battle — Which one is the smarter choice?
- 1Both the Tata Sierra and Kia Seltos score 5 stars in Bharat NCAP
- 2Seltos edges ahead slightly in adult protection with 31.70 vs Sierra’s 31.14
- 3Both SUVs score a perfect 16 out of 16 in the side barrier test
The Tata Sierra and the Kia Seltos have recently been crash tested under the Bharat NCAP programme in 2026. Both come away with 5-star ratings for adult and child occupant protection.
It shows that safety has improved across the segment. Not just in claims, but in actual testing. At the same time, a 5-star rating does not mean both cars perform the same. The detailed scores and feature spread tell a clearer story. This comparison looks at how the two stack up. It covers crash test scores, standard safety kit, and what you only get in the higher variants.
Tata Sierra vs Kia Seltos safety rating — Adult Occupant Protection

The Kia Seltos scored 31.70 out of 32 in adult protection and the Tata Sierra scored 31.14 out of 32. Both are strong numbers, but the Seltos has a slight edge in the frontal test. In the side barrier test, both cars achieved a perfect 16 out of 16 and both passed the side pole impact test. The difference between the two lies in the frontal offset deformable barrier test where the Seltos scored marginally higher.
| Category | Kia Seltos | Tata Sierra |
|---|---|---|
| Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) | 31.70 / 32.00 | 31.14 / 32.00 |
| Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier | 15.70 / 16.00 | 15.14 / 16.00 |
| Side Movable Deformable Barrier | 16.00 / 16.00 | 16.00 / 16.00 |
| Side Pole Impact Test | OK | OK |
| Overall AOP Star Rating | 5 Stars | 5 Stars |

In practical terms, the gap between 31.70 and 31.14 is small and both results reflect very strong structural performance. The Seltos was tested on the HTE(O) and GTX variants with a 1.5 CRDi VGT 6AT, while the Sierra was tested on the ACCOMP+ and ADV+ variants. Both cars weigh in the 1770–1825 kg range for the tested configurations.
Tata Sierra vs Kia Seltos safety rating — Child Occupant Protection

In child occupant protection, both cars again scored within a close range of each other. The Seltos achieved 45.00 out of 49, and the Sierra scored 44.73 out of 49. The Seltos has a very slight lead here as well, primarily because of a marginally better dynamic score with the 18-month-old child restraint in the frontal test.

Both vehicles used rear-facing ISOFIX child restraints in the dynamic tests. The Seltos was tested using the Joie i SPIN 360 i-SIZE, and the Sierra with the Joie i-Spin Safe i-SIZE. Both cars scored full marks on CRS installation and an equal 9 out of 13 on vehicle assessment. The Sierra's slightly lower dynamic score comes from the 18-month-old child result in the frontal test, where it scored 7.73 compared to the Seltos's 8.00. Everything else across the dynamic tests was equal between the two.

- 6 Airbags — dual front, side chest, and side head curtain
- Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
- Pedestrian protection system
- Seat Belt Reminder (SBR) for all three rows — driver, passenger, and rear

ESC, the pedestrian protection system, and seat belt reminders come as standard fitment on every single variant. That is confirmed in the BNCAP fact sheet and applies without exception. But, move up from the base HTE and the safety net gets significantly wider. Here is what is added as you go through the lineup:
- ADAS Level 2 with 21 autonomous features — available on HTX(A), GTX, X-Line, and GTX(A) variants

The base variants carry everything needed to pass BNCAP with a 5-star result. The higher trims like GTX and X-Line families, get a comprehensive active safety layer on top of that. For buyers who want the crash protection numbers without spending on the top spec, the base variant already delivers the same structural safety. For those who want the full active safety package with ADAS, the GTX and above is where that sits.
