Owing to India’s ridiculously growing population and the ever-expanding auto sector, most of the cars launched here crack good sales numbers in absolute terms. However, some cars outshine their competitors by a substantial margin and make it to the top of the sales chart. Here is a list of the top ten best selling cars in India over the last six months, including the latest data from May 2025. Evidently, the list is dominated by Maruti Suzuki.

Maruti Dzire

The Maruti Suzuki Dzire climbed up to the first position in the list of best selling cars in India in May 2025, with a total of 18,084 units dispatched. The new Dzire shares its powertrains with the fourth generation Swift, and looks a lot more upmarket than its predecessor.
Maruti Ertiga

The only MPV to make it to the list of top ten highest selling cars in India, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga garnered 16,140 units of sales last month, making it climb to the second spot. The Ertiga comes with a 1.5-litre K-Series petrol engine, generating 103PS and 137Nm of torque. There’s an option of a factory-fitted CNG kit too.

Maruti Brezza

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza was the third best selling car in India in May 2025, gathering a total sales number of 15,566 units. The Brezza gets the same powertrain options as that of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, and both cars are due to be updated soon.
Hyundai Creta

Hyundai’s star performer, the Hyundai Creta, was pushed to the fourth position in May 2025. Selling a total of 14,860 units last month, this compact SUV comes with a variety of engine & transmission options — a 1.5-litre petrol with a 6-speed MT and a CVT, a 1.5-litre diesel with a 6-speed MT and a 6-speed AT, and a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol with a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT — and is generously loaded with features, which make it a great package.
Mahindra Scorpio

The Scorpio has been Mahindra’s best selling vehicle consistently over the past few months, selling 14,401 units in the last month itself. This includes the sales of both the Mahindra Scorpio Classic as well as the Mahindra Scorpio N. What’s interesting is the fact that Mahindra sells more diesel Scorpios than petrol ones.

Maruti Swift

Selling 14,135 units last month, the Swift assumed the sixth spot in this list. Maruti Suzuki gave the Swift a generational update last year, and the car now comes powered by a 1.2-litre Z-Series three-cylinder petrol engine, generating 82PS of power and 112Nm of torque.
Maruti Wagon R

India’s best selling car, the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, ranked just behind the Swift, selling a total of 13,949 units. Maruti is celebrating 25 years of sales of the Wagon R in India, making it one of the longest selling cars in India.
Maruti Fronx

The Maruti Fronx brought in 13,584 units of sales last month, making it to the eighth spot. The Fronx gets five options for the powertrain — a 1.2-litre petrol engine with a 5-speed MT or a 5-speed AMT, a 1.2-litre petrol engine with a factory-fitted CNG kit paired to a 5-speed MT, and a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine paired to either a 5-speed MT or a 6-speed AT.

Tata Punch

One of India’s best selling cars, the Punch, made a reappearance to this list, assuming the ninth spot. Tata sold 13,133 units of the Punch in May 2025. This includes the sales of petrol, CNG, as well as electric Tata Punch variants.
Tata Nexon

Last in line is the Tata Nexon, selling a total of 13,096 units last month. The Tata Nexon is available in a wide range of powertrain options, including petrol, diesel, CNG, and electric powertrains, catering to diverse customer bases.
