Bharat NCAP has announced the Toyota Innova Hycross safety rating and it passed all tests with flying colours. The brand Innova is hard to compete with in the family mover segment and among the few that come close—in terms of safety at least—is the Tata Safari, which was also awarded five stars from Bharat NCAP. In this article, we compare the Toyota Hycross vs Tata Safari safety rating and find out which one is a safer family mover between the two.
Toyota Hycross Vs Tata Safari — Adult safety
Both the Toyota Innova Hycross and Tata Safari scored full five stars in adult safety. The Hycross scored 30.47 out of 32, slightly ahead of the Safari’s 30.08. In the frontal crash test, the Hycross performed a bit better, scoring 14.47 out of 16 compared to Safari’s 14.08. However, in the side crash test, both cars delivered a perfect score of 16. Toyota Hycross Vs Tata Safari — Child safety

The Hycross secured full marks in the dynamic test (24/24), whereas the Safari was just a touch lower at 23.54. Both offered ISOFIX mounts in the second-row outboard seats and used i-Size rearward-facing child seats for testing. The overall protection levels for both 18-month and 3-year-old dummies were excellent in both models.
Toyota Hycross Vs Tata Safari — Safety features
Both models come well-equipped with modern safety features. This includes standard dual front airbags, side chest airbags for the front row, and curtain airbags covering all three rows. Features like Electronic Stability Control (ESC), pedestrian protection, and seatbelt reminders for all passengers are also offered as standard. In terms of safety kit, both models are equally matched.
Toyota Hycross Vs Tata Safari — Verdict
While the overall performance of both models is impressive, the Hycross edges ahead in some areas. Its better score in the frontal crash test shows stronger protection in front-end collisions. The Safari keeps pace with a strong side impact performance and excellent CRS installation results. Overall, both vehicles are among the safest in their segments under Bharat NCAP.

If you’re comparing these two purely on crash safety, the Toyota Innova Hycross comes out slightly on top. It offers marginally better protection in both adult and child safety categories. That said, the Tata Safari is not far behind and still ranks as one of the safest Indian SUVs. No matter which one you pick, both deliver a solid package when it comes to occupant safety.
