Upcoming Honda cars in India — First electric Honda car, new SUVs and more to expect
- 1First electric Honda car to not be based on the Elevate
- 2Honda plans to bring three new cars to India by 2027
- 3Global plans have also been recalibrated with focus on hybrids
Another CEO, another press conference. It’s business as usual at Honda Cars India. Takashi Nakajima, President and CEO, Honda Cars India, recently announced the carmaker’s roadmap for India for the next few years, which includes the nearing launch of the first electric Honda car in India. Here are more details about Honda Cars India’s future plans.
Petrols, hybrids, and electric vehicles

The carmaker aims to build a portfolio that comprises petrols, hybrids, as well as electric vehicles, and wants to gradually transition towards pure EVs. It plans to introduce three new Honda cars in India by 2027, including at least one BEV and one hybrid vehicle.
New Honda BEV incoming in 2026
The first-ever electric Honda car in India is set to make its debut in the next financial year. While there were speculations earlier about it being an EV based on the Honda Elevate SUV, recent reports suggest that it is likely to be a whole new vehicle. Details about the same are scarce at the moment.

Honda has been one of the first introducers of hybrid cars in India, and it has plans to continue strengthening its portfolio in that direction. It is banking on a prospective rising demand for hybrid cars in India, and plans to launch new hybrid models, potentially with its next-gen technology. We also expect the next hybrid model to be an SUV rather than a sedan, which seems to be a dying breed.

Not keen on CNG
While the carmaker has seen decent sales numbers for retrofitted-CNG kits on its Amaze and Elevate cars, it is not looking at CNG as a long-term option.

Honda’s global plans

Honda recently announced recalibrating its global roadmap as well, shifting its focus from all-electric vehicles to hybrids. Starting in 2027, the Japanese automaker plans to introduce 13 new hybrid cars and SUVs globally, which will make use of Honda’s next-gen Hybrid technology. As for EVs, it continues to work on its 0 Series range that is set to debut next year.
