Volkswagen Tayron to launch soon — Teased for the first time
- 1Volkswagen Tayron is expected to launch either in January or February
- 2It will compete with SUVs like the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, & others
- 3It is likely to come to the Indian market via the CKD route
Volkswagen has teased the Tayron in India for the first time signalling its return to the 3-row SUV segment after the Tiguan Allspace was discontinued. The Tayron is built on the MQB EVO platform.
On the international market, the Tayron measures 4,792 mm in length, 1,866 mm in width, and 1,668 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,788 mm. It’s expected to retain these dimensions for the Indian market as well. Once it launches, the Tayron will sit above the Tiguan, cementing its position in Volkswagen’s lineup.
Volkswagen Tayron teased ahead of launch

In the teaser, Volkswagen shows the Tayron hidden under a white cloth, but some details are still easy to spot. The glow from the headlamps gives away the LED DRLs running across the front, along with the illuminated VW logo. At the rear, the connected LED tail lamps are visible, just like on the international version. That points to India getting the same lighting setup.

Unlike the Tiguan R-Line, which is brought in as a fully built import, the Tayron is said to arrive via the CKD route. It is expected to be assembled locally at Volkswagen’s Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar plant.
Volkswagen Tayron engine

Globally, the Tayron is offered with a range of engine options. For India, though, Volkswagen is expected to stick with the familiar 2.0-litre turbo-petrol. It makes 204 PS and 320 Nm, and will be paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. An all-wheel-drive setup is also likely to be part of the package.
