Volvo confirmed its plan to launch the EX30 electric hatchback a few months back and its spy shots on Indian roads confirm that the plans have reached an advanced stage. Read the story to know more about the upcoming Volvo EX30 that is all set to launch in India in the coming months.

Volvo EX30 — What is it?

The Volvo EX30, as we mentioned earlier, is Volvo’s smallest and most-affordable electric vehicle and like everything other carmaker, Volvo wants us to believe it's an SUV. Once launched, the EX30 will go up against the likes of other electric crossovers like the Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the BYD Sealion 7. The EX30 spotted on test was covered with heavy camouflage wearing HR registration plates.

Volvo EX30 design and features

Speaking about the design of the EX30, it carries its key design cues from the larger EX90—the electric iteration of the XC90 that recently received a mid-lifecycle facelift in the Indian market. The EX30 gets a new interpretation of the Thor-Hammer LED headlights, which now move up for the projector to function—looks rather cool for sure. Other exterior features of the EX30 include an enclosed front grille, 19-inch alloy wheels and vertically-stacked LED tail lights.

On the features front, the EX30 packs in the latest-gen infotainment system that comes with Google apps functionality, park pilot assist, surround view camera with parking sensors, advanced driving assistance systems, premium surround sound system and a lot more.

Volvo EX30 powertrain specifications

Coming to the Volvo EX30 powertrains, it offers two options in the global market — RWD and AWD. The RWD powertrain uses a 272PS electric motor that can drive the car for up to 475km on a single charge in the Extended Range variant. The AWD powertrain, on the other hand, offers a power output of 428PS and offers a claimed driving range of 450km on a single charge. The AWD variant and RWD Extended Range variants come with the 69kWh battery pack while the base RWD variant packs a 51kWh battery pack.

Volvo EX30 India launch timeline

Volvo Cars India has confirmed its plans to launch the EX30 in the year 2025. The carmaker is actively considering the CKD route for its smallest EV, in order to keep the costs in check. The EX30’s elder sibling—the EX40—is on offer as a CKD and it took off to a great start upon introduction, owing to its attractive starting price.
