10 Best EVs To Buy In India In 2022

We live in an era where environmental concerns are at their peak. Since forever, emissions from traditional crude oil-based vehicles have been significant contributions to the overall degradation of the environment. There is a state of panic globally; we owe damage control to our future generations and the planet earth.

As such, the world is left with little choice but to shift to a cleaner, more environmental-friendly alternative—electric vehicles. The glamourous players in the automobile industry like Tesla, BMW, and Mercedes are all moving to EVs. So switching to EVs will not only make you responsible but also classy.

That said, here is a list of the ten best EVs you can buy in 2022.

  1. Mahindra eKUV100 (Expected Price: Rs. 8.25 lakh)

Haima Bird Electric EV1 comes in two variants, with 200km and 300km ranges. Only the former is going to be available in India initially.

  1. Tata Altroz EV (Expected Price: Rs. 14 Lakh)

This stylish EV from Tata motors comes with a tweaked front end and different alloy wheels than the standard Altroz. The other features are pretty much the same. It inherits Tata’s Ziptron powertrain, first seen in Nexon EV. It has also got an IP67-rated, dust-proof, and waterproof battery pack, delivering a range of 300km in a single full charge.

The new Altroz comes with an electric fuel type and automatic transmission only.

  1. Maruti Futuro-e (Expected Price: Rs. 15 lakh)
Maruti Suzuki Futuro-e

Maruti Suzuki is a household name when it comes to budget compact cars. They flaunted their all-new electric vehicle concept, the Futuro-e, at Auto Expo 2020. Details about its powertrain are yet unannounced. The company plans to launch vehicles based on this all-electric-SUV coupe, which they announced in 2021. However, the chances of the Futuro-e being produced anytime soon are meagre.

The fuel type will be electric-only, but unlike all other vehicles on our list by far, this will have a manual-only transmission.

  1. Tata EVision Electric (Expected Price: Rs. 25 lakh)
Tata EVision

This elegant EV Sedan from Tata Motors is all set to compete in the league of Hyundai Elantra and Skoda Octavia.

Tata EVision Electric features two motors. One is present on each axle, turning the Sedan into an AWD. It has both slow AC and fast DC charging, and the range is somewhere between 350-420 km on a single charge. It will also provide a top speed of 200kmph. It is equipped with cloud computing, analytics, and increased human-machine mapping to add a cherry on top. The transmission type is automatic only.

  1. BMW i4 (Expected Price: Rs. 80 Lakhs)
BMW i4

It’s a BMW sedan. It’s the company’s first proper electric vehicle. Is that not enough information for you to drool over it?

While BMW’s new beaver-tooth grille that comes with some of its latest models has garnered a lot of negative talks, the all-new i4 is sure to rubbish all of that. It will deliver 335 horsepower and a range of 300 miles, as BMW claims. A sportier version of it also claims to have 536 horsepower, with a compromise on range, of course.

It can attain a top speed of 150kmph, accelerating from zero to 100kmph in 7.2 seconds.

  1. Mercedes-Benz EQS (Expected Price: Rs. 1.75 crores)
Mercedes EQS

Finally, the poshest on our list, Mercedes-Benz EQS. The all-electric flagship Sedan.

The former has rear-wheel drive; the latter comes with an all-wheel drivetrain. Both have a maximum speed of 210kmph, a battery pack of 107.8kWh, and a range of 770km on a single charge. The charging speed is also impressive; it can go from zero to eighty percent in 35 minutes. To add some more feathers in the hat, it supports both DC fast charging and wall-box charging.

The new Mercedes-Benz EQS has a 55.5-inch MBUX Hyperscreen—a three-screen single-piece unit. In addition, it’s also got a 15-speaker 710W Burmester sound system, ambient lighting, remote parking assist, blind-spot assist, and lane assist. All these features give great competition to cars like the Tesla Model S and the Audi e-tron GT.
