Mahindra XEV 9S

XEV 9S has an electric motor mounted in the rear axle and a single-speed transmission. There is no change of gears, and this ensures that power is delivered continuously as the speeds change.

Electric Motor

The output varies based on the battery choice. The 59 kWh builds 228 bhp, and the larger battery versions build up to 282 bhp. Torque remains fixed at 380 Nm. The SUV is responsive off the line because of the delivery of instant torque. During regular use, it feels adequately quick, and overtaking on highways doesn’t require much planning.

Drive Modes & Regeneration Behaviour

Some of the available drive modes include: Range, Everyday, Race, Snow, and Custom (on the higher models). The Range is focused on efficiency, while Race sharpens response speed and the weight of the steering. The regenerative braking system has four levels, which are regulated using controls that are mounted on the steering wheel. The car’s one-pedal mode enhances regeneration to ensure that it completely halts without brake input.

City Driving

Steering is very light in Everyday mode, which helps in traffic and tight spaces, and the 540° camera system makes parking easier. Highway Driving

Pack ONE Above 59

This is the most affordable one, with a 59 kWh battery that provides 228 bhp and 380 Nm. The purported range is 521 km. It also covers the basics well, including space, usability, and the core 7-seater EV experience.

Pack ONE Above 79

With the larger 79 kWh battery, this variant steps up to 282 bhp while keeping torque at 380 Nm. The claimed range increases to 679 km. It feels stronger on highways and suits buyers who plan frequent long-distance drives.

Pack TWO Above 70 / 79

Positioned between entry and top trims, these variants balance output and equipment. The 70 kWh version produces 242 bhp with a 600 km range, while the 79 kWh version delivers 282 bhp and up to 679 km. Along with the performance bump, you also get more comfort and tech features.

Pack THREE 79 / Above 79

These are the fully loaded versions, using the 79 kWh battery with 282 bhp and 380 Nm, and a claimed range of 679 km. They include the complete feature set, such as the triple-screen setup, Level 2 ADAS, and premium cabin materials, which makes them the most feature-rich options in the lineup.

The Mahindra XEV 9S has a claimed ARAI range of up to 679 km. Actual range will vary depending on speed, traffic conditions, and climate control usage. Regenerative braking helps improve efficiency in city driving, while highway range remains steady but slightly lower due to sustained speeds.

The Mahindra XEV 9S relies on a simple SUV design and framework based on space and efficiency. 

Front Profile

A sealed front fascia replaces a traditional grille, paired with a full-width LED DRL. The main headlamps sit lower in a vertical stack, giving the front a clear, functional layout.

Side Profile

The 2,762 mm long wheelbase and upright proportions prioritise interior room. The aero-focused alloys of 19-inch are used to fight the drag, and the overall position is rather practical than sporty, thanks to its flush door handles.

Rear Profile

At the back, the design is kept simple with wraparound LED tail lamps and an upright tailgate. The width is visually emphasised, but detailing is minimal.

Front Row

The front seats are power-operated and have memory, heating, and ventilation. They are very supportive in everyday use. The seat is mounted high and provides a clear view forward. It features a three-screen display (with 12.3-inch screens) which spans the dashboard, with the centre console lid.

Second Row

There is enough room for three passengers without compromise, helped by the flat floor. The seats can slide and recline, allowing passengers to adjust legroom as needed. Rear AC vents and sunshades are provided. 

Third Row

Space in the third row works for short city drives. It is more suitable for children on longer journeys. Entry is managed through a one-touch tumble function on the second row, which simplifies access.

Storage & Practicality

With all rows in place, boot space is about 210 litres. Folding the third row increases the capacity to over 660 litres. There is also a 150-litre front trunk for additional storage. Inside, the SUV includes large door bins, an open storage area below the centre console, and two wireless charging pads with cooling support.

The Mahindra XEV 9S features three 12.3-inch displays integrated into a single glass panel, running on the Adrenox 2.0 system with a Snapdragon 8295 processor. The system responds quickly and keeps key functions like navigation, media and settings within easy reach.

The display layout adapts to drive modes, with simpler visuals in Range mode and more performance-focused graphics in Race mode. It supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, includes built-in 5G connectivity, and has a 16-speaker Harman Kardon system with 3D audio. The front passenger also gets a dedicated screen for media and navigation support.

The Mahindra XEV 9S is equipped with a full safety suite, including Level 2.5 driver assistance systems.

Active Safety

Features include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, automatic emergency braking for pedestrians and cyclists, lane keep assist and lane departure warning. A blind view monitor displays a live feed during turns, while the 540-degree camera setup improves visibility in tight areas.

Passive Safety

It comes with seven airbags, including a centre airbag, and is built on the INGLO platform for enhanced structural strength. The battery pack is IP67-rated and housed within a reinforced casing to improve impact protection.
