BMW makes unarguably some of the most desirable cars in the world. They have been present in India for over a decade now and have successfully made a name for themselves for selling some really luxurious cars that are even fantastic to drive. As most of the ‘Bimmers’ available in India have been quite popular, these cars are quite easily available in second hand cars markets of most Indian cities.
BMW X1
Available with a front-wheel-drive-only layout, the BMW X1 is the most affordable SUV in its carmaker’s lineup. The entry-level model in the company’s X-range of SAVs (Sports Activity Vehicles) is available in both petrol and diesel variants and packs quite a punch due to powerful engine options and pretty great dynamics. Also, the X1 has been on sale in India for far too long to be easily available in the market.
In its second generation now, the 2-seater sportscar in the Bavarian automaker’s arsenal is a Porsche Boxter-rival that looks stunning, comes with a powerful set of engines, and, as always, is dynamically well-sorted. While the latest-get Z4 has recently gone on sale in the country, you can still find the last-gen model pretty easily in the used car market.
The X7 is the flagship model in the carmaker’s X-range of vehicles. Basically, it’s to the company’s SAV portfolio what the 7-series is to its sedan lineup. The 7-seater SUV is huge, which, along with its modern design, gives it a really high street presence. The X7 costs roughly Rs 1 crore (ex-showroom) and was launched a couple of months ago. Hence, getting one in the used car market will be quite a task.
The BMW X4 can be regarded as the smaller sibling of the X6. It gets a similar coupe-crossover styling but has a smaller footprint. However, its engine is sufficiently powerful to help you keep up with the likes of 5-series sedan. It’s also more stylish than its bigger sibling, which is due to the usage of the company’s latest styling philosophy. However, like the X7, the X4 hasn’t been available in India for too long and finding one in the second-hand car market won’t be too easy.
The next model on our list of best BMW cars n India is the X3, which is a highly capable off-roader that can handle like a sedan but still offer off-roading capabilities that can put most other 4x4s to shame. What’s even better is that the X3 has been on sale in India for a long time now and can be easily picked up from the used car market.
While the Mercedes E-Class is for all those who demand a high level of comfort, the BMW 5-series is your option in case you even want a high driver involvement. It even looks sharper and offers great handling manners. This is definitely the car for all those who want a fun-to-drive machine along with a high comfort.
The BMW X6 is often heralded as the first-ever coupe-crossover ever. This model is in its second generation now and enjoys a pretty decent popularity in most markets that it is sold in. However, the design of the first-gen X6 was such that people did take some time getting used to it. Today, the X6 is available in a range of powerful petrol and diesel variants and even gets the company’s fantastic xDrive all-wheel-drive system. Plus, it’s been on sale in India for a while now and can be found in the second-hand car market without much difficulty.
The BMW 6-Series, like the X6, has a unique body style. While the company has sold various iterations of the 6’er in the country, currently, it’s available in the GT (Gran Turismo) format, which comes with a fastback design. The 6 GT is available with both 2.0-litre Twin-Turbo petrol and Diesel engines and brings in plenty of features. Currently, it’s slotted between the 5-series and the 7-series models in the company’s product range.
The BMW M2 Competition smallest M-model in the company’s lineup. While it’s small on the outside, its motor is anything but small. The fire-breathing 3.0-litre turbo-petrol motor outputs a supercar-rivalling 410 hp and 550 Nm. The motor comes mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and the car can sprint to 100 kmph from zero in just 4.2 seconds. A price tag of more than Rs 80 lakh isn’t small either.

BMW 3-Series
The BMW 3-Series was the first product that its carmaker launched in India. So far, the country has seen three generations of the 3’er, with the latest model having arrived only about a month ago. The 3-Series is currently available with a 2.0-litre diesel and a 2.0-litre petrol engine and is even available with the M-sport kit. This is the sedan to buy if you want the perfect blend of premiumness and sporty driving dynamics.
In many ways, the BMW 7-Series is likely an enlarged 5-series that’s more spacious, more luxurious, more powerful and at least as entertaining to drive. Of course, you also benefit from the limo’s higher brand image.
The last car on our list is the BMW X5, which is a highly luxurious and a capable off-roader that can seat up to 7 occupants in great comfort. It comes with powerful engine options and to most, looks hotter than the Audi Q7. Also, as it has been around for a pretty long time now, it’s easy to find this vehicle in the used car market.
The BMW M5 is a proper sleeper, which means it looks like a regular 5-series sedan but has enough grunt to outclass some supercars. The M5 is owned by various celebs, including Yuvraj Singh and Sachin Tendulkar, both which own a range of Bimmers. The BMW M5 is powered by a 5.0-litre V10 engine that generates a maximum power of 500 Bhp and a peak torque of 520 Nm.

BMW 3-Series GT
The BMW 3-Series GT is to the 6-Series GT what the X4 is to the X6. That said, in spite of getting a lot of design cues from the regular 3-series sedan, the GT model is based on the same platform as the 5-series. It even gets the same 2.0-litre and 3.0-litre engine options. The 3 GT can be picked up by those who want a fastback model but don’t want to spend on the costlier 6 GT.
